wiki : https://wiki.centos.org/FAQ/CentOS7 : FAQ 4.: "hand-edit the configuration files" ethX alias replacement
...eading information.
One direction is to disable NetworkManager and make aliases the old way
(copy the ifcfg-ethX file to ifcfg-ethX:X and do some changes). I got it
to work, but only with "ifup ethX:X". I did?t get ethX:X to start during
boot. I stopped testing it, and got back to use nmtui.
The other direction in in a non-graphical environment is to use
NetworkManager with nmtui. Adding the extra ip on the same interface
with nmtui, does the trick. I does not show up with ifconfig... but with
the "new" "ip addr"
What happens in the config file when you use nm...

Network Manager - rotate connection profile
...n the subject line, but here's my issue.
I have an occasional need to switch a few computers from one Internet provider to a different one. Both Internet providers feed into the same network, one at 192.168.0.1 and the other at 192.168.0.254.
So to change from one provider to the other I run nmtui to change the gateway and dns server addresses, then deactivate and reactivate the connection and I'm done.
It's just takes a few minutes, but I'm wondering if there's a way to automate this a bit so instead of having to run nmtui and change all of those numbers, then deactivate an...

Reliable way of having both LAN and WIFI on headless box
...n I am building a headless Centos 7 box that needs to reliably be on
both the LAN and WIFI network at all times. Amongst other things it's going
to be an AirPrint bridge enabling IPads to print to printers on a different
VLAN.
I have asked about this before and got a solution working using nmtui to set
up both the LAN and WIFI interface, and activate them. However, the WIFI
link is unreliable. Sometimes it doesn't activate, or after a while
de-activates. Sometimes it doesn't even appear in nmtui to enable me to
activate it.
Can anyone help me with how I can set up a more rel...

Minicom and Ncurses
Hi,
I have to do some maintenance on a CentOS 7 proxy installed on a routerboard
without a video card. The only way to access this machine directly is via
Minicom and serial port.
I'm using NetworkManager TUI (nmtui) to configure network interfaces, but
Ncurses rendering in Minicom works in the sense that chickens fly and horses
swim. What you get is a forest of question marks with a few barely recognizable
options lost in between.
Is there some magical trick to render Ncurses interfaces correctly in Minicom...

CentOS 6.5 equivalents in CentOS 7
I tried to install CentOS 7 on a new system. It works.
However, I'm noticing small things:
1. system-config-network-tui is not installed and yum cannot find it. I
realized for this -- nmtui
What about firewall? I can't seem to understand the replacement from
system-config-firewall-tui

Here is answers to your list. I have anonymized the some of the data:
1) Static ip configuration
2) This should be NetworkManager.
nmcli output:

netmask set with ifconfig doesn't hold
I gather that ifconfig is a way of setting the netmask in the current shell instead of a persistent value.? I say this because I am running it and see it for my specific network interface, directly after running it.
However if I restart the network service the netmask is reverted to the previous value.
What is the correct way to set the new netmask for the network interface to make it persistent.

From network-scripts to NetworkManager on a router : questions
...0.1
Packet forwarding is enabled and handled through the firewall script. No
need to go into the details for that.
This setup works perfectly as is. Now I'd like to move it to a
NetworkManager-based configuration, and I have a couple questions about
that.
I'm using NetworkManager TUI (nmtui) to configure my connections. I'm
defining two profiles WAN (enp1s0) and LAN (enp2s0). With NetworkManager
I have to configure gateway and DNS information on a per-interface basis.
1. Which interface should have the gateway information ?
2. In a similar manner, which interface should have t...

From network-scripts to NetworkManager on a router : questions
...onf with
nameserver and search domain directives.
I can't do that anymore, because /etc/resolv.conf gets squashed by
NetworkManager. If I don't fill in DNS information for the interfaces, then all
I get is an empty "#Generated by NetworkManager" line.
On the other hand, using nmtui, the only place where I can actually fill in DNS
information is in the interface-specific dialogs.
After googling around for this problem, it looks like I'm not the only one
scratching my head.
Any suggestions ?

C7 and /etc/sysconfig/network
Does Centos 7 use /etc/sysconfig/network or is this replaced by some
systemctl set of commands.
For example I know to set my host name with:
hostnamectl set-hostname nevia.htt-consult.com
But I don't know if this is the same as
cat <<EOF>/etc/sysconfig/network || exit 1
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=nevia.htt-consult.com

Network Manager - force activation of multiple connections
...o act as AirPrint server. This
requires the LAN connection that the servers have always had, plus a WIFI
connection to give it a presence on the WIFI (The WIFI and LAN are on
separate VLANS)
I have finally dragged myself into the 21st century and used NetworkManager
for the connection, using nmtui to do the work.
The problem I have is that on most of these servers, thw WIFI connection
doesn't always activate on bootup and I have to go into nmtui -> activate ->
WIFI etc. to get it working again.
Is there a way to force NetworkManager to always activate all interfaces on
bootup?

system-config-network centos altarch
Hi
I have just installed centos 7 altarch on a 32 bit computer. I selected
the minimal system install. I see that when I search with yum there is
no command system-config-network, i.e.
yum search system-config-network
Does this command (system-config-network) still exist?
Would I expect it to be in the repository even though I did a minimum
install?
Although I do not have X, I can run some X

After upgrade to CentOS 8.1 default gateway missing
Hi,
Tonight I upgraded two CentOS 8 boxes to CentOS 8.1 (1911). Then after a
reboot of the first server the network was unavailable. In IPMI console
everything except the network was looking good. Network was unreachable.
No errors in NetworkManager. I also restarted NetworkManager, but it did
not help. Then I discovered that the default gateway suddenly was missing.
Then I rebooted the

Where did network setup goes under setup utility in CentOS 7?
In CentOS 6.7 I ran setup command and I could configure network settings
from that "gui" utility at command line. In CentOS 7 I don't know where
this goes or how to enabled. I have installed a few packages:
yum install setuptool -y \
&& yum install system-config-network-tui -y \
&& yum install system-config-firewall* -y \
&& yum install

Hi,
After trying the method using the 'nmcli' its the same error result as
what I encountered in using the 'nmtui' by the way after configuring then
check it in the nmtui its the same configuration as what I have done
earlier.
