Newbie NFS question

locking/caching parameters for AIX's NFS implementation. All machines
are running NTP synched to a common NTP master server
My questions:
1) Since my index files are stored in on a separate, non-quotaed, not
NFS filesystem, can I correctly assume this means I can ignore the
nmap_disable and lock_method parms?
2) The docs say:

Server 1.0.1 migration: Maildir : UID inserted in the middle of mailbox
...server, so no multiple access.
I've tried to remove all index files, and remove dovecot-uidlist, all is
correctly re-created, but the problem remains.
Could it be an NFS locking problem ? Since only mail are stored on
maildir + NFS, and index on local disk,
so I didn't set lock_method or nmap_disable
Could it be related to this: see email from from Doug Concil :
