Nitrobit problems
I'm having some problems with Nitrobit Group Policy that appear to be Samba-related. (Nitrobit is a software product that lets you use AD-style Group Policies on a Samba domain. It stores your policies in a Samba share then processes them at startup just as an AD GPO would be processed.) I've run into numerous failures with vario...

windows upgrade
I think you are talking about making it act like WSUS or RIS role. This is not possible (but would be cool). OT Windows policy question
...as well as thinking for myself, were also a pre. Now for something completely different: High school in Amsterdam Netherlands: - RHAS3 - Samba 3.0.11 RPC, not ADS (no way we're upgrading while the bug reports keep pouring in) - ldapsam backend, Openldap 2.2.17 - Mostly Win 2000 workstations - Nitrobit 1.2 policy editor, High school works perfectly, teachers can do what they want (including print via Cups), mostly do. They don't have ACLs yet, but that will come Only, one teacher keeps downloading movies and stuffing them into "My Documents", which gets written to his profile shar...

Storing GPC and GPT
Is possible to store the Group Policy Container (GPC) on a OpenLDAP? Is possible to store the Group Policy Template (GPT) on a Samba share? The idea is to manage windows desktop policies using the new Win200x GPOs without using an Active Directory. Any other hints? Problem joining 3.6.22 domain when a service connects to a share before logon
Hi everyone. We have recently come across an interesting issue after upgrading from 3.6.16 to 3.6.22. Since we can't currently upgrade to 4.x and we have Win7 machines on site, we implemented a 3rd party product called "Nitrobit Group Policy" which has been working very well since last Summer. On startup, before the login prompt it connects to a share to read in the machine policies. After login, it checks same share for user-based policies. All works well. But wait there's more :) We are using FOG (Free Open So...

How to assign Administrator's rights?
Most of my users (unfortunately me included) need to use a bloated, badly designed piece of sh^Hoftware that only works with administrator's rights (I won't say names but it's from a big german company strongly pushing for software patents). How can I assign those users Administrator's rights without phisically going to each machine? I cold put them in the 'Domain

Roaming profiles and accounts
Hi all, I've managed to install an ubuntu server as PDC, everything is working fine. However, i've got a few questions regarding profile ( M$ XP ) and unix accounts. 1. Roaming profile : I believed that when logging off a computer, user's profile was moved back to the server. But i can still find one. Is there anything to do for the profile not to be stored on pc ? 2. An account

Group Policy on Samba / Linux / OpenLDAP or another directory (yes, you can)
...39;m a trainer for Red Hat, preparing to teach a course on nifty directory services, and have been doing a little research on related matters. I stumbled upon last weeks thread re: group policy on Linux / Samba machines and thought you folks might be interested in the following. A company called Nitrobit has a group policy implementation that works in conjunction with Samba and any LDAP server (though they use OpenLDAP in their examples). Editing is done using the MMC, policies are stored in the directory, and applied with a client app. http://www.nitrobit.com/GroupPolicy.html Dunno how good it i...

All user profile
hello I am using samba 3.0.11 as a PDC. Is it able to create a 'All Users' profile in the samba server so when my clients login the NT machine, it will retrieve the 'All users' profile from the samba instead of using the local 'All users' profile? Currently, i am only able to create the 'Default Users' on netlogon share for the users. Carmen

NTConfig.pol
Hi list. I've just configured a PDC server using RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 (update 5) and Samba 3.0.25a. Everithing is working fine. I'm not using LDAP and all my client machines are installed with Windows XP Professional. I used the Mike Petersen website ( http://www.pcc-services.com/custom_poledit.html) to help me creating the NTConfig.pol file and created custom profiles

Terminal server settings.
Hi All, I'm working on a full migration from windows DC to samba DC, and i'm actually having a problem with terminal server settings! I run a terminal server on win2k, but i would store all my user information on samba. Although, i don't find any documentations or info about terminal server setting with samba. Is it supposed to be possible to store it with samba and a ldap backend,

...ve to go to the site for Samba. smbd processes get neatly shut down and restarted at ws login and logout, there are no runaway processes, people's profiles don't get lost, MS Office works ok (though we try to encourage users to use OOo instead), everyone can print on the network printers, Nitrobit's policy editor works a treat (even the 1 1/2 local Windows sysadmins can manipulate it), good AV software, everybody's happy and stays happy. I don't know what more I can say. The whole point about taking the decision to junk the NT4 PDC was to gain performance (we have a Gb fiberglas...
