NT Domain logons and clear text passwords
Hi,
I'm very excited about the NT domain logon stuff but I have a question.
Is/will it be possible to use the "normal" Unix password validation for
user logons (we don't want to have two password files)? Smbpasswd is
probably good for machines but we would like to continue using clear text
password and Unix validation for users in the future.

Logon Musings
I'm toying with the idea of writing a Samba-oriented Win95/98/NT logon
window. I know it's possible to replace Windows' logon mechanism with
another. Novell's Client32 does this. I know there's also standards to
make a network service available to Windows' change-password mechanism
(so I can fire smbpasswd on the other side). That could be an
alternative to establishing

Probleme compiling Samba 2.0.4
...er drives to their desktops without having to
enter their passwords as many times as they access new drives. It works when
the win password is the same than the Samba one but I would like their samba
passwords synchronized when they update their windows password. I found a
few solutions on the Web (nisgina and gina) that are replacement DLL's for
NT ONLY and I would like to know if I'm on the right way and if NIS is a
good solution if we think to synchronize Windows passwords when changing
samba or Unix passwords...

SAMBA Enterprise-wide solution?
Hello,
Our university has a study in progress looking at using SAMBA to
provide file/print sharing as an enterprise-wide solution.
Does anyone know of an entity that uses SAMBA to support up to or more
than 10 site locations, over 125 buildings, and supporting over 5000
workstations?

UNIX -> WinNT Username/Password Synchronization Revisited!
...t Digital UNIX v4.0D ships with "Advanced Server for Digital
UNIX" (ASDU), which actually offers this functionality, but we are yet to
see our copy! Are there any other similar products out there...???
All advise much appreciated! (NB: We do not want to implement NIS or NIS+,
so GINA and NISGINA are not viable solutions. As we are located in
Australia, we cannot use Kerbnet (due to the lunacy of US export laws)!
Also, we are exceedingly hesitant to allow WinNT to validate UNIX logons
using PAM. And as we need a solution before the start of first semester
(March 1998), we cannot wait for th...

Large companies using SAMBA ?
Hi,
I've install Samba on AIX 3.2.5 and I'd like to know if there are large
companies using Samba ?
What's the size of your company ?
How many users ?
Do you know a limit of Samba ? (performances)
Thanks

i wonder that nobody is talking about LDAP servers?! Unix vendors are close
to have

Fix passwd/shadow/group files?
I've been copying old passwd/shadow/group files from system to system
for ages across different distributions/updates and would like to
get them back in sync with each other so the system tools will
work. Now they hang like:
#userdel irose
hangs forever, syslog says:
Jul 12 11:19:32 newftp userdel[30335]: delete user `irose'

/etc/passwd - Domain Controller Synchronization
Hello,
I don't know much about Samba so forgive me if this is a stupid question.
I'm currently working on a project for a client that relies on Unix machines
for their main applications. Access to Unix applications is done through
terminal emulation (vt 100) on Windows PCs.
We are implementing a Windows NT network for file an print sharing and to
support SMS. One of the goals of the

If I remember my reading of the discription of "Window Services for
Unix" it does NOT suport win2k being a NIS-Client. Only a NIS-Server,
e.g. you get the windows users on the unix machine (similar to
winbind (not in the mechanism, but in the effect). A NIS-Client for
NT is NISGINA (an other nice piece of free software), unfortunatly I
have not found a version for win2k.
