Remote identity management

x86_64 package mess ?
...'s the first time I work with this sort of hardware. Doing rpm -qa | sort | less shows that most of the packages seem to be installed twice: once for i386 architecture, and then again for x86_64. Is this normal? Or did I mess up something during install (thought I wouldn't know what)? Niki

Simple way to banish IP addresses ?
...dth is being eaten by some chinese folks trying to brute-force-ssh their way into the machine. Is there a simple way to banish either single IP addresses or, maybe even better, whole IP classes ? I know it's feasible with iptables, but is there something more easily configurable ? Cheers, Niki

Add instantly active local user accounts *with* password using useradd -p option ?
