maximum likelihood estimation of 5 parameters
Hi Guys, it would be great if you could help me with a MLE problem in R.
I am trying to evaluate the maximum likelihood estimates of theta = (a1,
b1, a2, b2, P) which defines a mixture of a Poisson distribution and two
gamma prior distributions (where the Poisson means have a gamma
distribution, actually 2 gammas and P is the mixing factor). The likelihood
function for theta is L(theta) = Pi,j{P

maximum likelihood, 1st and 2nd derivative
Hi guys again, it seems I haven't been doing the maximum likelihood
estimation correctly. I quote below, can someone explain to me please what
does it mean that the 2nd and 3rd derivatives of the function equals zero
and how to compute that in R.
"We have our initial estimated, subjective parameters for the gamma mixture
and we have our likelihood that is the mixture of negative

Hi all,
Thanks to all who offered advice on using F95 in R.
Now I'm trying to compile a test package using gfortran, Linux 2.4.21 and
R 2.1.0.
I was able to successfully compile and use a test F95 routine by setting my
environment variables as follows in bash:
export PATH=~/bin/:$PATH
export F77=gfortran
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=~/bin/irun/lib
export GFORTRAN_STDIN_UNIT=-1

creation of a matrix
Hi all,
I have a relative large amount (several thousand rows, but a small
amount of unique objects) of data in a format like this:

1 text_string

2 text_string
2 text_string
3 text_string
3 text_string
3 text_string

I want to create an n x p matrix, n objects (=40) and p unique text
strings. Nij is number of occurrences

[LLVMdev] Questions about GPU code generation/ VS development
Hey everyone,
I've been working for a while on a virtual machine/DSL (for lack of a more
precise term) specialised for graphics. I hope to allow domain specific
optimizations, eg folding together post-processing passes, or automatic
LODing for procedural textures. I'm planning to make the renderer itself to
be defined at runtime, to allow foward rendering, deferred rendering,
raytracing,

fitting Markov chains
I need to find a computationally simple process for the movement of
interest rates. In this simplified model, an interest rate can have
3--5 possible values, and its movement is characterized by a matrix of
transition probabilities (ie, it is a Markov process).
I would like to estimate this process from a given set of data.
For example, let the interest rate time series be:

matrix name
Hello,
Presently, we are able to add additionnal info to a matrix
thanks to the nice comment() and attr() functions.
Maybe I miss some other functions ?
Since there is a always a little remaining place on the
top left when one print a matrix,
I was wondering if it won't be interesting to offer the
possibility to show some information here,
I'm thinking on something like :

Printing Issues with NT type Clients.
Hi. To begin with, I have a freshly built RedHat Linux 8.0 box running samba 2.2.8a. The kernel version is 2.4.18-14. I downloaded and compiled samba from source. I am using LPRng-3.8.9-6 as my printing system. The attached printer is a Lexmark Z22 printer and it is attached to the parralel port.
Problem:
For the life of me, I can't get NT type clients, NT4, 2K and XP to print to samba.
