DST is coming nigh - HELP!
Tomorrow morning my Central Europe will try to steal an hour of daylight
by adding an extra hour at 2 am. This event will reintroduce an old but
trivial show-stopper for the broader use of Samba. Microsoft has, perhaps
intentionally, redefined the summer/winter time reckoning and just
acknowledged in a KB article that, yes, MS Windows don't show the correct
time, but they show the wrong

Automatically forwarding fresh Kerberos tickets?
In an environment where users use smart cards to authenticate on Windows and then use ssh to login to UNIX systems via GSSAPI, it is nigh impossible to renew/refresh the Kerberos credentials in the UNIX session. If the user fails to renew their credentials before they expire, the user is stuck and must log out and log back in to get valid tickets.
Meanwhile it is entirely likely that on the Windows desktop where they ssh'd from...

This has been discussed to death on various lists, including the LKML...
Almost every controller and drive out there now lies about what is and isn?t flushed to disk, making it nigh on impossible for the Kernel to reliably know 100% of the time that the data HAS been flushed to disk. This is part of the reason why it is always a Good Idea? to have some sort of pause in the shut down to ensure that it IS flushed.
This is also why server grade gear uses battery backed buffers,...

However installing amavisd on centos leads to a spaghetti config file
(i.e. /etc/amavisd/amavisd.conf and nothing else)
For obvious reasons I want to avoid spaghetti config, not only is it
poor practice, but also nigh on impossible to maintain properly
without breaking stuff.
Assuming it is possible, how would I go about changing the Centos
"dump" based config into a more sensible one where local site
customisations are clearly deliniated ?

Lazy expunge for performance ?
Some filesystems are quite slow at deleting files, so I'm wondering if
anybody is using the lazy expunge plugin to implement a solution where
expunged messages are moved to a separate directory structure within the
same filesystem, and later deleted as a nighly batchjob ? Assuming expunge
renames/moves messages, and don't do a copy + delete..
Does something like this make sense ?

Removing xorg stuff
Starting to clean out my server.
I use command line only.
Even though I tried not to install the gnome and x, a lot of stuff did
install anyway.
In testing the removal process I find I cannot use yum remove due to losing
to many programs due to dependency.
Trying to remove via rpm -e is nigh impossible as it appears to be an
unknown chain of dependencies separate from the ones using yum that block
any way of deleting it.
I am thinking to do a rpm -e and then trying to take out all the dependent
ones..
However..I am not sure about taking out X since so many items were installed
with t...

me to have any further guess as to what to do here, but my expectation is
that it would make R not auto-quit.

This behavior is present in R 2.9.2 and 2.10.0.
Many thanks!

Looks like this transition is nigh, as we absolutely need our zoo of
Windows versions joined to a domain.
My question actually was, does Samba 4 ("Samba Active Directory") in its
current state emulate AD good enough, to allow staying with
Linux-powered AD DC. For almost 10 years we were quite happy with our
Samba 3 do...

Yep, another "hg pull", followed by a nighly recompile and bfu
fixed the problem. The box don''t need libxml2.so or libz.so in
/lib any more to mount the zfs /usr filesystem.
I had pulled fresh sources on 2006-11-17, immediatelly before the
fix for 6494840 went in ;-)

7-STABLE and Intel G33
...isclaimer: I'm not a software engineer by education or trade, just a
mechanical engineer who likes to tinker with computers and software]
I've been reading the agp code, the intel driver code and I've skimmed
the intel docs. I find the code quite hard to understand, and the intel
docs nigh-on unreadable.
Would modifying the if-statement to not produce this error on the
CHIP_G33 fix this problem? Or would it horribly blow up in my face?
Any help to get this to work would be very much appreciated!

Dovecot LDA troubles (input in flex scanner failed)
Hi all,
I'm running fedora core 5 with postfix 2.2.8 (modified rpm version) and
dovecot 1.0 beta7 and dovecot-lda nighly cvs snapshot from 14-04-2006
I might need to add that amavisd-new is configured as a content-filter.
I have postfix running using virtual users in an mysql database and I have
setup dovecot lda in postfix like the wiki says here:
