Reproducing this with a more recent version of nft leads to the following:
# nft -f nft_defines
BUG: invalid range expression type set
nft: expression.c:966: range_expr_value_low: Assertion `0' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)
So it doesn't crash anymore but still doesn't work.
