Re-exporting an NFS mount.. Possible?
...he server end is a Windows 2008 system running NFS server software. The clients mount the server resource as an NFS2 mount but some compliance issues were discovered with the setup. For various reasons, updating the client is not an option at this time. The fix the issue, the server needs to export NFS3 mounts but the clients do not support that version. As a workaround, I considered adding a third system running CentOS that would mount the server and re-export it to the clients. This will mitigate the current issue related to visibility of the share from certain groups. It does not appear possi...

Overhead evaluation of my nfsv3client probe implementation

I would like to hear your feedback to them. 1. add an argument to rfscall() and rfs3call(), pass XID as an parameter pro: little performance overhead con: change all the code that calls rfs3call() and rfscall(), even they are not related to nfs3 client 2. insert XID into some argument of rfscall() and rfs3call() pro: little performance overhead con: change all the code that calls rfs3call() and rfscall(), even they are not related to nfs3 client because rfscall() is not just for nfs3 3. move the dtrace probe declaration in...

Retraction: Protocol stacking: gluster over NFS
...what I wrote, describing the situation to some co-workers: =============== With Joseph''s and Kevin''s help, I''ve been able to replicate Kevin''s complete workflow on BDUC and executed it with a normally mounted gluster fs and my gluster-via-NFS-loopback (on both NFS3 and NFS4 clients). The good news is that the workflow went to completion on BDUC with the native gluster fs mount, doing pretty decent IO on one node - topping out at about 250MB/s in and 75MB/s out (DDR IB) ib1 KB/s in KB/s out 268248.1 62278.40 262835.1...

ZFS monitoring - best practices?
We''re starting to grow our ZFS environment and really need to start standardizing our monitoring procedures. OS tools are great for spot troubleshooting and sar can be used for some trending, but we''d really like to tie this into an SNMP based system that can generate graphs for us (via RRD or other). Whether or not we do this via our standard enterprise monitoring tool or

Best practices for mailbox network file storage?
Is there a current best practice for a shared filesystem backend for mailboxes (in my case, all virtual accounts)?? NFS 3/4, GFS2, GlusterFS, other?? In the case of the latter ones, is the use of Director necessary?? Any specific anti-recommendations?? Also, if it matters, I *think* I want to use BackBlaze racks for storage.? Also, I've seen recommendations for the filesystem underneath

syslog: CPU stuck for 10s!

Seeking advice about auth/home serving
Hi, I'm currently using nis/nfs3/autofs in a small network (20 boxes), and planning on using a more secure/elegant method. The thing is, which solution to adopt ? The network is mainly composed of Centos boxes, and a couple MS/Win ones. ldap/kerberos/nfs4 ? Directory Server ? Anything else ? Another point is, w...

nfs4 help needed
Fedora 13 is using nfs4, and there is a problem in opening files requiring OpenOffice if accessed over an nfs3 mount, so it's time to change. I found a couple of tutorials, and got it *almost* working correctly. This is where I need help. Logwatch tells me /nfs4exports/Data1 and /Data1 have same filehandle for *,192.168.0.0/24,192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0, using first The tutori...

NFS4 + SELinux
All test machines are CentOS 5.5 (RHEL subscriptions purchased). We've had NFS3 storage working fine and decided to try NFS4. We can mount an NFS4 share on our KVM host, but the SELinux file context on the mountpoint directory is magically changed from virt_image_t to nfs_t. Restorecon refuses to change it back. Adding the mount option context=system_u:object_r:virt_image_t...

LSI/3ware 9750-4i and multipath I/O
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has successfully configured two lsi/3ware 9750-4i series controllers for multipathing under CentOS 5.7 x86_64? I've tried some basic setups with both multibus and failover settings, and had repeatable filesystem corruption over a iscsi(tgtd) or nfs3 connection. Any ideas? Vahan

NFS4 idmap question
HTTPD on some of my CentOS5 systems is configured to run as user "nobody". Also, it needs access to some exported file systems. CentOS5 uses NFS3 so I changed the ownership of the files on the storage server to "nobody" to give httpd full permissions. Now I want to rebuild these systems with CentOS6 and httpd running as user "apache". The problem is how to give access to the NFS exports to these new servers while the old...
