Samba - windows - win2k
Hi, I am still looking for the answer to my problem, i.e. windows not seeing the smb serbver in the networkneighbourhood. Here is my setup: Linux RH 7.1 Server / SMB 2.2.1a-4 (upgraded yesterday), IP Address 192.168.1.2 Firewall / Smoothwall: IP 1: 192.168.1.1 (DMZ side) IP 2: 192.168.0.1 (Internal Network) I opened UDP 137/138 and TCP 139 from DMZ to Internal (Internal to DMZ allows all) Internal Network: 192.16...

subnet browsing crappy solution!
Trying all the stupid methods to solve the issue of Win2k hosts from different subnets that can't be seen in the NetworkNeighbourhood when server is Samba on Linux (including reading the F***ing manuals and not finding anything useful or browsing through the source of samba until my eyes fall in my mouth) I have decided that they were, well... ,stupid and chose to try crappy solutions! One of them worked! As I have a network o...

1.9.17 printing across subnets
...which the linux running samba server is the router using two ethernet cards . Workstations on both subnets share their printers from win95. Win95 machines from both sides of the subnet can telnet to both ethernet cards on the server and can also ping all machines across the two subnets. In win95 networkneighbourhood all printers (and workstaions for that matter) from BOTH subnets show up correclty. However the users can only print on the printers on "their" side of the subnet. So I have a working tcp/ip net and working netbios over tcp/ip on the two subnets BUT i do NOT have working netbios/netbeui(...

IPC$ - password
...the following problem: I recently set up the Samba Server Version 2.0.5a on a SuSE-Linux 6.0 PC (Kernel 2.0.36). Whenever I try to reach the shares on this machine from Windows 95 or Windows NT machines (with different user-names) in our Network, by double-clicking on the servername in the 'networkneighbourhood', I am asked for the IPC$ - password (on 95) or for username and password (on NT), before beeing able to see the shares. Here is my smb.conf : [global] workgroup = MPCH-PC server string = Samba 2.0.5a on Linux 2.0.36 interfaces = 192.67.218.53/255.255.255.0 se...

"smbclient //printserver/printersharename -c queue" doesn't work
...uot;queue" command is not showing anything, not even if I use the very same interactive connection from where I sent the job (so the user access right should be the very same....) The XP and the 2k boxen *do* see each other's queue content (double-clicking the respective printer (in "networkneighbourhood --> other computer --> printer-folder --> printer") brings a window with the job list and some details about "document name", "status", "user", "no. of pages", "job size", "sent at" and "printer port"... Good idea, but no reply: what to do.
...ant to ask the people of LinuxToday to make a link/shortcut to this howto, but sofar the did not publish it. The reason for it is not known to me. I can only gues. Too technical? I'm a bit desparate about it. I know it's a very good construction, which has potential. It lets you browse the networkneighbourhood, which is detected automatically, no mather where you are, and you can enter the shares whenever you want. This is done using automount and cifs. The latest is making sure that the properties on files are represented properly and ATTR/ACL's, links and inotify are supported. which is not the cas...

W2k/w98 don't see printers on samba-3.0.0beta2/3 in "Add Printer" dialogue
...he printer using the "add printer" dialogue in windows, when in the dialogue searching the domain, the printers don't show up for selecting. Only the domain can be seen , but no machines with shared printers show up. The odd thing is , they show up when browsing the network in the networkneighbourhood/networkplaces (w98/w2k) Allso when in the "add printer" dialogue in stead off browsing the network to find the printer, I simply fill in the domainname of the sambaserver and the name of the printer, it works, but I want the selectable printers to show up when browsing the network in t...

...rd. And gave all access to that folder /home/public. And even gave access to folders /home/profile and /home/netlogon and mkdir to these two. Now saved this file and restarted smbd. And then i moved to win98 system and modified the regedit to set "EnablePlainTextPassword" to 1 and in the networkneighbourhood for ethernet card's property i set workgroup to "MYGROUP" and saved everything and restarted the windows machine. Here is the problem i got. When double clicked "network neighbourhood" i displays "entire network" only. when double click it, it shows the error messa...

...mailman/listinfo/samba>, <mailto:samba-request@lists.samba.org?subject=unsubscribe> List-Archive: http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba/ Hi I have just installed Samba 2.2 on my Solaris 7 workstation and is getting some strange problems here. I try to view my workstation name (cad1) in NetworkNeighbourhood of Win98 but could not see it. Then I tried to map the share directory to a drive and it works, showing that my samba server is somehow working. Please note that I have set MAP TO GUEST=BAD USER. If I don't, I will be prompted for a password and no matter what I type, it is never correct. I...
