I am trying to come up with a "clean" way to check if a machine is running 'sshd' so it can be included in a NetSaint config. Currently, there is a NetSaint plugin called "check_ssh", but it simply connects to port 22, looks for the SSH version response from the daemon, and then disconnects. Can Samba write to named pipes ? I am using Netsaint/Nagios for system monitoring and the command file to write system commands to is implemented as a named pipe. ...experience Samba deals very well with seriously high loads even on reasonably modest hardware. I have a dual PIII 600 with 2GB RAM being constantly wacked by around 800 concurrent connections. Performance is excelent considering the load.
