Trouble browsing 3.0.0 from W98
Hello list!
I have a mixed network of 98 and XPHome machines I am trying to setup
with a Samba 3.0.0 file server, installed from Debian pkgs. I am able to
connect from the XPHome machines without a problem, yet from 98, I
can see the server (Aries) from NetNeighborhood but get an error when I
try to connect stating that the server could not be found (sorry don't
have the exact text. It has been a week since I've been on site, and I
am trying to fix this remotely from two hours drive away).
What does work fine from 98 is:
net use s: \\192.168.0.5\any_sha...

works fine. However, the RH box running samba can't see anything other than
itself inside the workgroup. It sees other workgroups fine. I can connect
using LinNeighborhood to one of the win2k computers in the workgroup. The
computer that I can connect to also sees the RH box through NetNeighborhood,
but I cannot access it, either by iconically doubleclicking or at the dos
prompt using the net command.
I've checked the subnet mask, and they're all at 255.255.255.0.
Lastly, the only network service I can access on the RH box is ping, so
I cannot obtain the current IP address from if...
