Routing setup with pfSense package
Is it possible to connect networks with different masks together?
For example a 10.26.0.0/16 subnet with a 192.168.117.0/24 subnet.
See this thread for more details...

APC Back-UPS 1500 RS - looking for help with strange behaviour
...er as usbhid, port auto and
name ups.
Curiously I tried the apcupsd package of pfSense and it seemed to work as
expected.
Happy to send any logs or info that might be relevant (probably best to set
up ubuntu again since it's easier to control the config files). I first
asked about this in the Netgate (pfSense) forum so the last entries under
uk_dave is me with some info on upsc and upsrw.

Thanks for anyone who can give me some pointers,
Cheers,

Using a CentOS 6 Machine as a gateway/router/home server
...with the server at my leisure, and reboot it, and not
affect internet routing to my wife. the firewall doesn't need mucking
about with and has uptimes measured in months (time between pfSense
upgrades). pfSense provides the DHCP and DNS and NTP services for the
LAN.

Q: Samba4 AD DC & small office file sharing
In lieu of virtualization, I wouldn't be opposed to some
small, inexpensive appliance type device (sort of like
the Netgate firewalls that run pfsense).
I came across the MintBox Mini Pro
(http://www.fit-pc.com/web/products/mintbox/mintbox-mini-pro/)
Any experience or alternate suggestions?

I note everyone is moving over to the Intel Avoton/Rangley 'system on a
chip', this is the Xeon Atom C2xx8 series, like this...
http://store.netgate.com/ADI/RCC-VE-2440-board.aspx
(other versions of Rangley come with 2-4-6 ethernet ports, and 2-4-8 cores)
these are higher performance than the APU, for somewhat more watts and
dollars.

LDAP bind to AD fails
...e/CN=ADC1.arbeitsgruppe.mydomain.at
i:/O=Samba Administration/OU=Samba - temporary autogenerated CA
certificate/CN=ADC1.arbeitsgruppe.mydomain.at
So I would have to use "adc1.arbeitsgruppe.mydomain.at"
?
But why did that work yesterday ... ?
aside from this thread I also posted at netgate forum:

Samba4 Windows Client Time Sync Issue
I just realized that some of my Windows 10 clients do
not appear to be syncing the time correctly.
I setup NTP to run on my Netgate PFSense server. It is
using pfsense.pool.ntp.org Time Servers. I configured NTP
on my Samba servers to point to back to the PFSense Server.
NTP on the samba servers have the following ntp.conf files:
# /etc/ntp.conf, configuration for ntpd; see ntp.conf(5) for help
driftfile /var/lib/ntp/ntp....

Has anybody got it working?

LDAP bind to AD fails
Yesterday I set up the pfsense-OpenVPN-Server to auth against the samba-AD
worked great already ...
Now without a change I get errors and wonder why.
I used the IP as "host" and TCP-STARTTLS to port 389
log.samba shows:

Hello,
We also use this. The Documentation is very good:
https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/vpn/openvpn/index.html
The Clients are easily installed using the client export functionality.

[Bridge] bridge problem when one interface is in blocking mode
Hi,
We have a simple bridge setup but the ping (and other
network traffic) does not work reliably. After tracing
the code, it looks like a software bug. Since bridge
software is been running by thousands of people. I
guess I am wrong. Anyway, here is the problem.
There are 2 boxes and each one has 2 interfaces, 1
ethernet and 1 wifi. STP is enabled for the bridge to
avoid the loop. So the box 1

PFsense via Samba Authentication Server -> ERROR! ldap_get_groups() could not bind
I've been trying to setup OPENVPN on a Netgate appliance
running pfsense.
Initially, the authentication server I created appears
to function. A connection is made, the "bind" is completed
and the organizational units are fetched from the server
and returned.
A few minutes later - without making any changes -
the same test returns...

RE: the "cisco vs. Linux" thread
FYI this topic has been covered on the Zebra and Quagga lists
- hardware processors, memory, NICs, etc
- software OS (Linux, *BSD), drivers, etc
I''ve been running a couple of Linux routers for about 2 years now, I''m
using
them as core routers so I bought a couple of rackmount "server" boxes
with
redundant PSUs and h/w RAID (1) for hotswap disks.

XCP GUI management
Xen List
After planning for a year to move my Xen 3.4 classrooms to XCP I''m now
making an effort. With the old system I wrote many lines of bash scripts
around the xm command to group and manage my VMs. I used sudo to grant
privileges for each student to start, stop, console into, reboot, and wipe
their VMs without any interaction from me. Now with XCP I had the hope of

Inexpensive device for bandwidth management
Hi,
I'm looking for a good network device that does bandwidth management. It
can be integrated in a router or stand-alone, but must be SIP-friendly.
I`ve tried the DIR-655 (latest firmware is SIP-hostile, and the latest
hardware revisions can't downgrade to the version that worked well) and the
DI-724GU (SIP-friendly, but bandwidth management is automated and not
configurable
