Network disk? (like memdisk but over the network)
...ver PXE with Memdisk, but as RAM is severely limited in the PCs I'm using (only 32-64MB) I can't load a huge Memdisk image to run large DOS programs, Windows, etc. Are there any programs out there like Memdisk, but instead of storing the disk in RAM they read it over the network? (A "netdisk" program.) This would be a really useful lightweight solution, as it's pretty painful trying to mount a network drive through DOS for the same sort of thing. Thanks, Adam.

Printer errors
Hello all, Got SAMBA running on a linux 2.0.32 box, and all is well. Looked over the docs and set up my printer with the (what I think) are correct entries. Basically, what the default smb.conf has. Testparms says it o.k.! And I can print (lpr) locally. Windows sees both printcap entries (inkjet and psjet), but any attempt to pring to them errors out. I then added the print command =

MSDOS on my network
Hello, I am looking for the first time at setting up Linux with Samba as a primary server on our network. I would like to replace my SCO Unix system and a Windows box I use to serve MSDOS machines. The MSDOS server seems to be the stumbling block at this point in my research. I can only run netbEUI on them as far as I know and Samba seems to only talk on TCP/IP. Do you know of a solution?

Network Path could not be found on HP with XP
..., just individual independent boxes. All see each other and the FreeBSD based SAMABA 2.3.3 server without difficulty. For a long time we were convinced it must have something to do with plaintext/encrypted passwords, but we have tried it both ways and still get the message "The network path \\netdisk\sharename could not be found". There is a pause of 30 seconds or so before the message appears, suggesting to me that it is the host and not the share that can't be found. The HP box has no trouble with any other network service that we can find including other tcp/ip services. We did no...

Question about file ownership on destination
...reserve the actual ownership. How can I ensure this is done? Here's an example of my configuration: rsyncd.conf on 192.168.1.1: log file = /var/log/rsyncd.log max connections = 4 #redundant chroot since this is the default, but just to be sure... use chroot = yes [server1] path = /netdisk/server1/mirror comment = server1 Server Root list = no read only = no auth users = server1server secrets file = /root/rsync-passwd hosts allow = 192.168.100.1 #note that the uid and gid belong to a non-privileged linux user "server1" on this host uid = server1...
