usermap confusion (":" or "=")
According to http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/NetCommand.html#id2571949there should a be ":" between a users UNIX login and their Windows login in the "username map" file, is that correct? According to the man page there should be an "=" between them. The reason I ask is because I am trying to get username maps to work in...

remote groups as members of a samba ldap group
I've gotten Samba+LDAP working on one network, and trust relationship established with a remote AD network. I've also got my samba groups as members of the AD groups (eg, Samba "users" is a member of AD "users", with the ACL stuff working as expected). Going the other direction seems somewhat non-obvious however. Somehow, I will need to include the winbind groups as

Not able to add domain users to local groups
...le to successfully configure my samba server 3.0.24 running on Debian Linux server as "Domain Member Server" to W2k3 server. Command "net rpc testjoin" indicates that the join is a success. As mentioned in the document http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/NetCommand.html Under the section "Nested Group Support" I was trying to add domain users to a local group, using the command #net rpc group addmem <local-group-on-DMS> "<domain-name>\<Domain Users>" -Uroot%secret But I get the message that could not connect to loca...

Interdomain trust between Samba and Windows 2k3
Hello, I have to set up a domain trust between a samba 3.0.25 server and a windows 2k3 server. I already had a close look at the corresponding chapter http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/NetCommand.html#id365312 but this chapter doesn't mention windows 2k3 server. My question is, whether I can use this chapter for a 2k3 server, too? Or are there any major differences? Maybe someone has a current description for this domain trust? Thanks for your help, Stefan -- ********************...

Command 'net rpc ...' yields nothing
...is, I can use the root to login into the domain too, which something I don't like. If i used the parameter "invalid users = root" via smb.conf, then I cannot join any PC into the domain. I roamed into samba official How-to ( http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/NetCommand.html#id2599196) and found something interesting in the "Administering User Rights and Privileges" part, the net rpc command. My goal was to create a new user, other then the root, with a privillege restricted to merely joining PC's into the domain (SeMachineAccountPrivilege). But when...

Windows printer drivers
Hello everyone. My name is Bruno and I'm setting up a CentOS-based print server. This is the only GNU/Linux machine on our network, which serves something like 30 Windows XP/7 clients. I've already installed and configured CUPS and Samba. Very basic configuration. Also, I have already added our printers to CUPS. But now I don't know how to download Windows printer drivers to my print

Incoming External Trust
I'm running a Samba domain (Samba 3.4.7) with OpenLDAP. I also have an Server 2003 AD domain, and want to set up an external trust so that AD users can access resources on the Samba domain, but not visa versa (I believe this is called a one-way incoming external trust). I'm not finding a lot of information out there that makes sense. Does anybody have any hints? -- Aaron Clausen

Using Windows ACL on a samba3 share
Hello folks, I have some directories within a samba 3.x share which I want to give granulated security settings for various users and groups. I could use of course "setfacl" and POSIX ACLs to accomplish that, but some of these ACL should be also able to be set by some users. These users of course has no access to my linux host where samba3 is running, so they only can do that by
