I'm assuming your machines do not have a router or firewall in
the way; if so, find instructions on how to unblock your chosen
hi-numbered ports.
If you intend for others outside your LAN to connect to your
chosen hi-numbered ports, which was my case also with the
LiftedRadio netcasts, then check the router/firewall settings
for the outside world, too. (btw I ended up not using any
firewall or router, because of some stupid bugs that were
never fixed in the Linksys routers.)
For a *ix-type system, the sysctl settings need to match the
"user range" you want to dedica...

Streaming from South by Southwest
...erformances in
Ogg Vorbis with Icecast 2 for those who can't attend the festival.
Some of the Xiph team will assist in this project where simultaneous
streams will be sent from 10 stages through 4 days of the event.
Is there anywhere I can get more info on this? Which stages whill be
netcast, etc?
Geoff.

is there a way to insert 'description' for a relayed stream?
...a non-icecast feed, is there any
way to add 'description' data to it?
This is a minor quibble but I don't see a way around this.
As my charts & discussion at Peercast.org's forum shows (pointed to
in my earlier posts here), we had to put sc_serv at the 'hub' of
the netcast feedpoint, mainly so we'd only encode once but
distribute many-places, but also so the AIM/ICQ/IRC info would show-
up at yp.shoutcast.com (no other open-source server seems to
support the icy-bits for AIM/ICQ/IRC data) and be propagated out to
relays/YPs that do support it. Another good re...

converting mp3's to aac+ or ogg
...ot; to do various on-the-fly re-encodings.
The basic idea is to treat each <encdec> section as a pair of
cmd-line tools: implying a *ix pipe connects the output of the
<decode> cmd to the input of the <encode> cmd. The stdout of the
<encode> cmd is fed back to ezstream for netcasting.
I've successfully used this to netcast a lot of Apple Lossless
recordings I've done myself into an mp3 stream. (At the time
back when, the MacOSX recording apps could only do lossless using
Apple's codec. The alac cmd is open src and comes from a dude
who has reverse-engineered A...

libshout: Streaming MPEG Audio Layer 2
Hi,
I'm not anywhere near an expert, but I had successfully used
Darkice, TwoLame, and Icast231 to netcast a mp2 stream. If it
will help, here is a snip from the related area of my darkice.cfg:
[icecast2-1]
format = mp2
bitrateMode = cbr
bitrate = 384
quality = 1.0
server = 127.0.0.1
port = 32710
password = (duh!)
sampleRate = 48000

Streaming AAC with libshout?
Hi Greg,
thank you for recommendation but my question is related to a different
topic.
I would rather say that Orban should finally notice that selling standalone
windows app is not a solution for everyone as it does not integrate well
with SaaS solutions.

Just need sound and/or a stream
...pite Apple's "kitchen sink" approach in QT, and since the
open source projects are getting better & better, I use my own
recent (SVN) builds of mplayer & ffmpeg and all associated libs
etc. (liba52 for AC3, FAAC+FAAD for AAC, and so on) to test and
monitor streams.
When I was netcasting the LiftedRadio live gigs, I used jackd
(sometimes jackdmp) and darkice on PowerMac towers to grab the
audio and feed into IC-2.3.1 in various formats (mainly mp3 via
LAME, and Ogg/Vorbis, never could get AAC working quite right,
but it might be because mplayer was buggy in that area back
then)....

I wonder if you've studied Xiph's EZStream project located at:
<http://www.icecast.org/ezstream.php>
<http://downloads.xiph.org/releases/ezstream/>
I've used EZStream in the past quite a lot (I don't do netcasts
anymore...) but it sounds like EZStream will already do what
you're striving for. ;)
If you'd like, let me try to clarify some things about it:
Please don't get mixed-up with the <decode/encode> pairs noted
in the documentation. It is enough that EZStream can be told
how to d...
