SAMBA netbois lookup issues
Hi all! I am from the Windows world and am trying to migrate to Linux and have done a fairly good job so far. My recent challenge is that I have built a Samba file/print server that works very well on my internal network but when I VPN into the network remotely I am unable to access the server via it's server name. What is driving me crazy is the fact that the last of my Windows

Netbios Alias
I am trying to setup a Netbois alias that uses it's own smb.conf file. I have made the following changes to the original smb.conf file: netbois alias = TPUB02 include = /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf.%L For some reason the smb.conf file in the include statement does not work. In touble shooting this issue I was able to har...

...to smb.conf on linux_box encrypt passwords = Yes security = domain password server = * samba daemons are not running on linux_box but are running on my_pdc during the "join" attempts.. linux_box can ping my_pdc. It can resolve my_pdc's ip address using nmblookup and my_pdc's netbois name. I can use smbclient from linux_box to log into my_pdc and list the shares available. I am running tcpdump on my_pdc. New to Samba
Hi All, For many years I have had an OS/2 box peer to peer Netbois over TCP/IP connecting to either stand alone WIN98 or Dual boot with OS/2. Now I've moved the laptops over to Linux. I installed Linspire which is supposed to support Samba. Being new to Samba I have no idea what to to put in the .conf file - on Linspire there's 5 of these files. All I...

subnet browsing crappy solution!
Trying all the stupid methods to solve the issue of Win2k hosts from different subnets that can't be seen in the NetworkNeighbourhood when server is Samba on Linux (including reading the F***ing manuals and not finding anything useful or browsing through the source of samba until my eyes fall in my mouth) I have decided that they were, well... ,stupid and chose to try crappy solutions!
