A bit more help on samba

Samba WINS server and lost domain controllers
Hi all,
I am using a samba WINS server for my Microsoft network that is split
across 5 physical networks.
For a long time, everything has worked fine, however recently we have
had wierd problems with domain controllers "disappearing". Even with a
primary or backup DC on the physical wire, workstations and other NT
servers suddenly start complaining "a domain controller for DOMAIN

Once more into the breech (browsing problems)
Howdy all:
I thought I had this problem beaten into submission, but I guess
not. We just got our first NT box, which is another new wrinkle...
Anyway, the LAN just went belly-up again yesterday, and when the
LAN guy disconnected my linux/samba box from the network, Network
Neighborhood came right back. I still don't think it's a
linux/samba problem, but I'm certainly no

What can you see with Net View? Can you find it by name or IP
using Find Computer? Have you gone through the Diagnosis.txt
steps? If you can't see samba in NetHood, then its NetBIOS name
isn't known by the WINS server (or your local NT box). I assume
you're not running NetBlooie on the windoze side; samba requires
NetBIOS over TCP/IP on the windoze boxes (and sometimes windoze
gets confused running multiple protocols). Who is the local master
browser for your workgroup? You need to be able to resolve NetBIOS
names (via WINS, lmhosts, DNS proxy, etc) in order to build...

Samba and NT browser problems
Greetings:
I am running Samba 1.9.16.p11 on 7 9.04 HP-UX servers
and 5 9.05 HP-UX workstations. Recently our NT administrator has been
receiving complaints from users complaining about network
neighborhoods loosing entries.
He talked with resources at microsoft and received the following
response:
The helpdesk is continuing to receive calls about "Network

WINS problem
Greetings Earthlings:
I finally convinced the LAN guy to remove NetBlooie from our
windoze clients. I also made the samba box the local and master
browser (we have no NT boxes at the moment). Local browsing seems
to have gotten faster (at least Mr. Robinson's Network Neighborhood
resolves faster). However, our LAN is isolated (windoze clients
dial out to get...

"because you dance to disco and you don't like rock" [Win2000 vs Samba/Linux]
Hey,
so i finally got it working thanks to your list (found the right
place for EnablePlainTextPassword here, the existing 3-4 matches
in the default registry don't seem to do a thing).
It was all brilliant. I got connected to all my 4 samba servers.
I was happy... 'til the next boot (you know, during installation
of system, boots happen).
Now it connects to 3 sambas (1 on FreeBSD, 1 on

Win98 and Samba
Has any tried to connect to a samba server while using Win98 beta 2 as a client?
I keep getting incorrect username/password errors in the samba log file and am unable to either map a drive or connect to a shared resource.
With debug level set to 4 on the samba serve the main error seems to be error in packet at line 129 for cmd=117 (or something like that).
If anyone else finds a fix for this,

Multiple workgroups using SAMBA in a single domain
Dear people at the samba organization,
I wish to create multiple workgroups using SAMBA in a single domain on a
LINUX Box. The linux box is also the primary domain controller.
Please enlist me the procedure and mail to me as soon as possible.
Thanking you in advance
Sincerely
Roopinder Randhawa.

Performance (?) problem with Samba and NT
I've seen this question asked on the list, but never answered. I've tried
searching the archives, etc., but don't find anything relevant.
I have a network with several Win95 and 98 client machines and one NT4
machine (NT Workstation, not Server). It's currently using Novell, but I've
been testing a Samba server as a replacement. The 95 and 98 clients work
fine. When I

Authentication only on NT Boxes not accepted
Hi folks,
I'am using Samba 2.0.0 on a Linux and a Sun box and i have the following
problem: I can log in from a smbclient but not from an NT Client using
Security=Domain.
1.) Doubleclick on the machine opens the password dialouge (which
should'n appear, beacuse i'am already logged in the domain) Enter my
domainusername and password. Window dissapears and appears again and
