LAN games no longer working in Starcraft
My nephew was home last night and I couldn't play Starcraft with him
because selecting UDP or IPX LAN games no longer works. When they're
selected, a message box appears saying:
Unable to initialize network provider
I had the same issue in 0.9.11, 0.9.12, 0.9.13. I was able to play
multiplayer LAN...

Problems for 13 year old
I would like to teach some scientific/statistical computing to my 13
year old nephew and was considering using R for this. He has a Mac G3
OS 9.1.
I am looking for ideas for problems that would be interesting and
motivating for someone that age. I recently taught him the basics of
HTML and noticed that he particularly was intrigued by the ability to
change colors; thus, perh...

sloowww data transfers
Greetings,
Ive been scratching my head at the slow network
performance im having
with samba 3.0.9 (running debian unstable) set up as a
domain for
a couple of winders 2k pc's , used for gaming when
the nieces and
nephews are over it holds the master image of the
games.
Unfortunately data transfers vary from 1MB to 2MBs
from samba to winders
whereas winders to winders does several times as fast
It does not apear to be the hub or the network cards
as the following
indicates
A 110MB file xferred from samba linux...

Query, possible quick fix??
...seems like a lot of folks on wine-users
are as interested in making something work for the challenge of it, as
anything else. But, your comment about "really really really" changed my mind.
In June 2001, I installed Drake 8.0 in a computer in the government office
here in DF where my nephew is boss. They used Star Office 5.2 at that
time, and total linux users are 2, including a former UNIX user (does he
ever love linux, has it on his home computer as well, when I installed it,
he said he knew nothing about linux, but he had used UNIX; I told him he
was a linux expert) and my nep...

...lp you get the encoder going, you then
further disrespect me by asking for more help in the dev, and icecast
group here. So what are your motives? ts not to get free help its to
use us. So go use someone else your not wanted here unless you come
clean and really apologize I'm done wit you..
My nephew has been blind since birth and one thing I know is he was
not stupid, hes in his 3rd year of college at Texas A&M University so
blind does not mean retarded. You need to grow up and accept help when
offered and not use peoples kindness for your own means. I think I
have been more that helpful t...

Authorship and Attribution
A question on authorship and attribution policy for the Wiki. I
originally credited Alan Bartlett for the page content on
HowTos/ConfigureNewVideoCard, but he was not comfortable with that and
the reference got removed in the edit process. I generally do not
include my name on Wiki pages I create, but it is fairly common
practice. Should there be a statement in the Guidelines covering this

SNOM 200 behind NAT and other xmas woes
I decided to give the whole family IP phones for christmas,
all hooked into my asterisk server, so all the nephews can
have their own lines.
However, one of the phones I got was the SNOM 200. That's worked
fine for me on my own network, but I'm having bad luck getting
it to work behind NAT talking to Asterisk. It talks to my
termination/origination provider, which seems to ruthlessly ignore
SDPs and...

OT: Require e-mail during sign up process?
Sorry that this thread is a little off topic, but I''m looking for some
varying opinions on the subject and I think this group has a breadth of
experience on this matter :)
A little background info... the registration process for a web application I
am developing will be targeting those ages 13+ with the bulk of the users
being in the 13-25 age range. We are in the process of developing
