[RFC][PATCH 2/2] Btrfs: implement unlocked dio write
This idea is from ext4. By this patch, we can make the dio write parallel, and improve the performance. We needn''t worry about the race between dio write and truncate, because the truncate need wait untill all the dio write end. And we also needn''t worry about the race between dio write and punch hole, because we have extent lock to protect our operation. I ran fio to test the performance...

[PATCH] [VTD] Enable pass-through translation for Dom0
If pass-through field in extended capability register is set, set pass-through translation type for Dom0, that means DMA requests with Untranslated addresses are processed as pass-through in Dom0, needn''t translate DMA requests through a multi-level page-table. [Stories] Login and subdomain
I''ve just begin using rspec stories, and i m encountering some problems. In my application i have different subdomains in which specific users can log in, for example an admin will go to admin.myapp.com/authenticate/login, and an user belonging to a specific company will log in company.myapp.com/authenticate/login, and of course both have a different login process. To perform some

Rails integration tests without stories
I''m looking to drive the development of a rails app that does nothing but serve a JSON API. All of the models are well tested elsewhere, so I needn''t worry about that. My only immediate goal is to be able to fire off requests to a path and check the returned JSON. I''ve tried a number of methods for this today, without being particularly enthused about any of them. I started with user stories, but the conversion to english w...

[RFC][PATCH 3/3] Btrfs: improve truncation of btrfs
...(umount-mount, not -o remount), the pre-allocated extent will be dropped. This patch modified the relative functions of the truncation, and makes the truncation update i_size and disk_i_size of i-nodes every time we drop the file extent successfully, and set them to the real value. By this way, we needn''t add orphan items to guarantee the consistency of the meta-data. By this patch, it is possible that the file may not be truncated to the size that the user expects(may be <= the orignal size and >= the expected one), so I think it is better that we shouldn''t lose the data...

[PATCH 2/4] Btrfs: fix deadlock on sb->s_umount when doing umount
...by using try_to_writeback_inodes_sb_nr(), this function will try to get sb->s_umount, if fail, it won''t do any writeback. At this time, In order to get enough space to reserve successfully, we will use the sync function of btrfs to sync all the delalloc file. This operation is safe, we needn''t worry about the case that the filesystem goes from r/w to r/o. because the filesystem should guarantee all the dirty pages have been written into the disk after it becomes readonly, so the sync operation will do nothing if the filesystem is already readonly. Though it may waste lots of t...

No sound using OSS in Steam games
Whenever I change the sound driver from ALSA to OSS in winecfg all of my steam games are muted. Some of the games doesn't even start, some of them start but are totally silent with OSS. I installed a couple of non-steam games into the same wineprefix, interestingly they can use both sound systems. So this issue is applied only to steam games. If I apply the WINEDEBUG=+dsound parameter when

Rails validation scheme: why not validate params directly.
Hi. There are many ways of doing validation but I''m trying to think of the cleanest way without making the action code unclean. Would it be advisable to do validation on the incoming params hash rather than waiting to setup an object you are about to save and calling ojb.valid? before saving? Or even going as far as trying to save the object but failing from the model''s

[PATCH 1/5] Btrfs: fix joining the same transaction handler more than 2 times
...nsaction handler more than 2 times. The reason is: Task use_count of trans handle commit_transaction 1 |-> btrfs_start_delalloc_inodes 1 |-> run_delalloc_nocow 1 |-> join_transaction 2 |-> cow_file_range 2 |-> join_transaction 3 In fact, cow_file_range needn''t join the transaction again because the caller have joined the transaction, so we fix this problem by this way. [PATCH 1/2] vfs: re-implement writeback_inodes_sb(_nr)_if_idle() and rename them
writeback_inodes_sb(_nr)_if_idle() is re-implemented by replacing down_read() with down_read_trylock() because - If ->s_umount is write locked, then the sb is not idle. That is writeback_inodes_sb(_nr)_if_idle() needn''t wait for the lock. - writeback_inodes_sb(_nr)_if_idle() grabs s_umount lock when it want to start writeback, it may bring us deadlock problem when doing umount. (Ex. Btrfs has such a problem, see the following URL http://marc.info/?l=linux-btrfs&m=133540923510561&w=2)...

The second level of translation is done by the Xen hypervisor. It translates the pseduo physical address

How does vmm get all mmio areas of pci devices?
Hi, any one help? I have puzzled by the question of device''s MMIO areas. I know a MMIO operation of guest os handled by VMM as follow steps: 1: Qemu-dm does its initialization and presents virtual devices for guest os. 2: virtual bios executes PCI_setup, it will scan the pci bus and get configure space of all devices, then virtual bios allocation system resources(like port I/O range,MMIO
