In what respect?
I would opt for some kind of progress bar or percentage, but I have realised that
whatever is coded would have to play nicely over serial as well as VGA output,
which may neccessitate keeping it very simple.

How to best implement package options?
...version of options() (like
pls.options()), and store a list of options in the package name space.
This avoids any name collisions, but users have to relate to several
options interfaces (the ones I've seen work mostly the same as the
standard options(), though).
AFAIK, this solution neccessitates calling unlockBinding() on the
option list, or using assignInMyNamespace() to update it.
3) Finally, I've found one package ('pkgmaker') that implements a
general mechanism that can be used by other packages to create package
options. The mechanism creates options()-like fu...

The function is used to load all files, including ldlinux.c32,
configurations, and menu.c32. It must not display anything by default.
Otherwise you have the right thought. Just outputting a period for every N

If I felt a tight job market, the need to eat, and an intransigent university
neccessitated my contracting away my rights I would propose rephrasing the
contract to provide that the specified intellectual products would be donated
to the university. Then at least the copy rights principle would be asserted
and one could deduct each year's charitable donations from one's taxes...

Loading progress indication
Hi all,
back in previous versions (3.x I think) when you loaded the kernel or
initrd (at least through PXELINUX) you would get some loading progress
on screen with a series of periods.
At some point this feature just seemed to disappear.
No idea why and I've not yet managed to track down a note in the change log.
I found this feature really useful because it gave you some positive
