Ben Bolker's '‘emdbook’ Package , rbetabinom
...omial random variables) function
available in the "emdbook"package written by Professor. Ben Bolker for my
research study.
I have no questions with this function. However, I am looking for the
theoretical method/algorithm of the function "rbetabinom " .
Morris (1997), American Naturalist 150:299-327 is given as the reference in
the package, But I couldn't fund any theoretical methods to generate beta
binomial random variables in this article.
I would like to kind request you to suggest me any journal paper or document
to study the methods of generating beta binomial random va...

metafor: including phylogenetic non-independence among species?
Hello, Is it possible to include information about phylogenetic relatedness
among species (when species are replicates for each study within a
meta-analysis) in a meta-anlaysis in the metafor package?
Alternatively, I wonder if the method f Lajeunesse 2009 American Naturalist
has been adopted in R in any fashion?
Thanks, Scott Chamberlain

really irregular time series
...difficulty with the very basics, i.e. a) defining time series using time
as a natural number rather than a place in a table. I was also hoping
b) someone might have built some of the diverse kinds of interpolation
tools needed for irregular data on evolving systems to reconstruct their
probable naturalistic fluctuation and turning points, making good
representations of them compatible with other analytical tools.
Is there any functionality for either a) or b)? I could be just lazy,
but 'its' seems to require a calendar date format, and I'm interested
in reading the unique developme...

chronological clustering
Does anybody know of any R functions to perform chronological clustering
as explained in:
Legendre, P., S. Dallot & L. Legendre. 1985. Succession of species
within a community: chronological clustering, with applications to
marine and freshwater zooplankton. American Naturalist 125: 257-288.

isotonic/ordered heterogeneity tests
...do it ourselves ... ?
(We're not proud -- pointers to straightforward ways to this
on other platforms [cough]SAS[cough] would be great too.)

logistic discrimination: which chance performance??
Hello,
I am using logistic discriminant analysis to check whether a known
classification Yobs can be predicted by few continuous variables X.
What I do is to predict class probabilities with multinom() in nnet(),
obtaining a predicted classification Ypred and then compute the percentage
P(obs) of objects classified the same in Yobs and Ypred.
My problem now is to figure out whether P(obs) is

Questionnaire Analysis virtually without continuous Variables
Hello!
I am doing an analysis on a questionnaire of hunters taken in 4
different districts of some mysterious foreign country. The aim of the
study was to gather info on the factors that determine the hunting
success of a peculiarly beautiful bird in that area. All variables are
factors, i.e. they are variables such as "Use of Guns - yes / no", "Use
of Dogs - yes / no" and
