Trying to get a cdwriter to write to loop device
I'm trying to use a shareware program called PowerISO to extract a .daa

PowerISO runs like this:

[Patch] credit: Update other parameters when setting tslice_ms
From: Nate Studer <nate.studer@dornerworks.com>
Add a utility function to update the rest of the timeslice
accounting fields when updating the timeslice of the
credit scheduler, so that capped CPUs behave correctly.
Before this patch changing the timeslice to a value higher
than the default would result in a domain not utilizing
its full capacity and changing the timeslice to a value
lower

Compiling on Tru64
So, before I waste another couple of hours at this, is it possible to compile Samba 3.0.x on Tru64 at all?
If so, can you tell me what the ./configure switches are?
Thanks,
Nate

question about creating rails app and FTP
Hello,
I have a simple question about creating rails applications.
I am signing up with dreamhost so that i can put my rails apps on the
web (after giving up on trying to make my current VPS Plesk hosting work
with rails).
My main question is:
when creating a new rails app, can i create it using the rails command
on my computer and then upload the entire directory structure to my
domain

OT: Headset for Cisco 7960?
Sorry, I know it's OT, but does anyone know of a relatively inexpensive
headset that is compatible with the Cisco 7960?
I've tried the headset off Norstar phones, doesn't seem to work with or
without the amp.

[LLVMdev] MachO writer test cases
Nate,
Right, okay. I was also planning on looking at what the assembly output generates and "emulating" its output.
So I should be able to use the 'test/CodeGen/PowerPC' tests once I have augmented the MachO Writer PowerPC output.
Does this seem like the right and sensible approach ?

Request to speed up save()
Hi,
I am dealing with very large datasets and it takes a long time to save a
workspace image.
The options to save compressed data are: "gzip", "bzip2" or "xz", the
default being gzip. I wonder if it's possible to include the pbzip2
(http://compression.ca/pbzip2/) algorithm as an option when saving.
"PBZIP2 is a parallel implementation of the bzip2

Cost of garbage collection seems excessive
When doing repeated regressions on large data sets, I'm finding that
the time spent on garbage collection often exceeds the time spent on
the regression itself. Consider this test program which I'm running
on an Intel Haswell i7-4470 processor under Linux 3.13 using R 3.1.2
compiled with ICPC 14.1:
nate at haswell:~$ cat > gc.R
library(speedglm)
createData <- function(n) {

UDP multicast stream and NAT
Hi, my ISP is streaming some local concert using UDP
multicasting. I followed the instructions on the site which
described how to set VLC in order to view the stream, but
it didn''t work. I am behind a Linux router/firewall doing
NAT. Using google, I quickly found out that the
netfilter/conntrack code doesn''t support NATing multicast
traffic. I thought about bridging the internet

HVM - BIOS serial console redirection?
I realized this is probably better suited for the devel list.. basically,
is there any way in the BOCHS bios to enable ''Serial Console Redirection'',
where you see the BIOS contents over the serial line?
Windows 2003''s ''Emergency Management Services'' console (which allows you
to do installs and fix stuff over the serial line) requires this to

Explorer & MS Office hang
I'm running samba 2.0.7 on Solaris 2.6. We've have terrific success for well over a year with samba until about a week ago I started receiving reports that users could not open MS Office docs saved on a samba share. The samba logs are full of information about oplocks like this:
[2001/03/07 10:14:04, 0] smbd/oplock.c:request_oplock_break(1204)

Sure. I was using the source for 'as' and 'ld' as my guide when I was
working on it.

Intel ICH10R on CentOS 5.4
Hey there..
I was wondering if anyone could share experiences they have had
with the Intel ICH10R SATA controller? I tried looking around
but all I could find were RAID references, I have no interest
in using the RAID functionality just basic SATA JBOD. Wondering
if there are any gotchas for performance, drivers, quality etc.
I normally don't touch anything that is not hardware RAID though

samba in NATed network
We have about 300 users distributed on different vlans using private ip
network spaces, and sharing one single public IP when going out to the
Internet. Our samba (3.0.24) server has a pulbic IP and is running as a
primary domain controller. All clients receive Sambas's public IP as
their WINS server. I am able to join the domain but samba stops
responding sporadically. Looking at the

HEADSUP: USB da(4) quirks disabled for 4.9 and 5.2
If you have any of the devices listed below, please test with a recent
-stable or -current. They will stop working in 4.9 and 5.2 although old
behavior can _temporarily_ be enabled by adding "options DA_OLD_QUIRKS" to
your kernel config. If I don't hear from anyone, they'll be going away
permanently after the releases.
