Trying to get a cdwriter to write to loop device
I'm trying to use a shareware program called PowerISO to extract a .daa cd image to a raw iso9660 format so that I can view the contents. [Patch] credit: Update other parameters when setting tslice_ms

OT: Headset for Cisco 7960?
Sorry, I know it's OT, but does anyone know of a relatively inexpensive headset that is compatible with the Cisco 7960? I've tried the headset off Norstar phones, doesn't seem to work with or without the amp. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | nate carlson | natecars@natecarlson.com | http://www.natecarlson.com | | depriving some poor village of its idiot since 1981 | ------------------------------------------------------------------------

[LLVMdev] MachO writer test cases
Nate, Right, okay. I was also planning on looking at what the assembly output generates and "emulating" its output. So I should be able to use the 'test/CodeGen/PowerPC' tests once I have augmented the MachO Writer PowerPC output. Does this seem like the right and sensible approach...

Request to speed up save()
Hi, I am dealing with very large datasets and it takes a long time to save a workspace image. The options to save compressed data are: "gzip", "bzip2" or "xz", the default being gzip. I wonder if it's possible to include the pbzip2 (http://compression.ca/pbzip2/) algorithm as an option when saving. "PBZIP2 is a parallel implementation of the bzip2

Cost of garbage collection seems excessive
...epeated regressions on large data sets, I'm finding that the time spent on garbage collection often exceeds the time spent on the regression itself. Consider this test program which I'm running on an Intel Haswell i7-4470 processor under Linux 3.13 using R 3.1.2 compiled with ICPC 14.1: nate at haswell:~$ cat > gc.R library(speedglm) createData <- function(n) { int <- -5 x <- rnorm(n, 50, 7) e <- rnorm(n, 0, 1) y <- int + (1.2 * x) + e return(data.frame(y, x)) } gc.time() data <- createData(500000) data.y <- as.matrix(data[...

UDP multicast stream and NAT
...l interfaces (the one my computer is plugged into). This way I could set my IP to be public and no routing/NAT would be done on the Linux box. The only problem is that the box has 2 more NICs in it and there are other people connected to those NICs that need to use that connection (hence need to be NATed). Then I tried thinking about a DMZ-like solution where my box would be in the DMZ, but I can''t see that working either because I only have one public IP assigned. Can anyone think of any other way for me to be able to view the stream? Thanks. -- Using Opera''s revolutionary...

samba in NATed network
.../util_sock.c:open_socket_out(896) timeout connecting to 4.5.6.7:139 Here it looks like samba is trying to initiate a connection using the NAT/firewall public IP, which is never going to work since there's no port forwarding in place. Which makes me wonder, is it possible to run samba on a NATed network?? Thank you in advance for your input, eric.
