[LLVMdev] [cfe-dev] RFC: Upcoming Build System Changes
...es simple using boost, or configuring it slightly non-standardly, almost impossible without asking on IRC or mailing lists. bjam is the sole reason I have not submitted significant code to boost. Do not underestimate the benefit of hundreds of webpages written about CMake and make, detailing their nastier features. Where will your system's nastier features be documented? Sorry to sound negative, but I really don't want to have to learn yet another build system. One point which I didn't find answered, for casual developers. I currently do a bit of bug-finding on clang and libc++. All I...

That is an important qualifier: *If* that box touches the Internet in any way. Although one might add that attacks on the LAN can be nastier since there usually is local access. While I'm all for keeping machines current, there are production environments where upgrading is a huge pain or outright impossible. Where any upgrades need to undergo a rigorous QA process. Where an outdated environment including equally outdated pro...

Handling timeouts?
Hi Guys, Thanks for Unicorn, it makes my world rock. You guy have done a wonderful job and also huge thanks to the predecessors too. The default timeout on my Rails app is 30 seconds. The app works fine most of the time but there are some parts of the app which are slow and occasionally totter over the 30 sec response time and timeout. Is there a clean way for me to hook into timeouts and notify

QueryParser lowercase / uppercase and stemming
Hello. There are several problems I couldn't find a solution. 1. QueryParser does not perform stemming I am working with PHP5 and use the xapian wrapper written by Daniel M?nard I build a query using parseQuery. Output of the parsed query shows that terms are not stemmed, although a stemmer is set ( see code snippet) # create a XapianDatabase object to search in $db = new

Experiment in Online Mongrel Chat Support
...m) and kind of like it, so I thought I''d setup a little room and see how it works for answering Mongrel questions. http://www.lingr.com/room/3yXhqKbfPy8 I''ll be hanging there for a while and we''ll see how it works out. If it works well, and doesn''t turn into a nastier-than-IRC situation then I may turn it into a permanent thing. And no, lingr isn''t paying me to use them, I''m not endorsing them, and they don''t use Mongrel, they use FastCGI with comet: http://blog.lingr.com/2006/08/lingr_under_the.html So no whining or yelling out nas...

streaming considerations
After looking at streaming stuff, I figure there's a small change that we need to make to the way headers are done. Headers should be page aligned. Ie, when the header ends, the current page in the ogg stream should end, so that vorbis packets start in a fresh page. This is necessary because i don't want to have to repaginate the entire stream because I have to cache a header to be

Call by reference: Was: Object orientation?
To reply to Yves Gauvreau question (Jan 24, 2001) about how to set values within function, it is possible to do without without using the "<<-" assignment operator or other nasty tricks. I had the same problem and I did a nasty workaround two weeks ago implementing the functionality of reference variables, but today I "ran into" the [R] help page for ".Alias".

Office XP? Windows XP dlls? mIRClocked up.
I've read through some archives on the users mailing list and found some answers to getting Wine 20020122 going. I didn't have to change much with the default way tools/wineinstall. Here's my questions 1) Does Wine run programs that live in a native Windows XP vfat partition using the native dlls? 2) Does Wine run Office XP, even if it is buggy? 3) Can it run programs such as

AMAFlags always"Documentation" (or 3 inastcdrmysql) even after Set(CDR(amaflags)=bill) or SetAMAFlags(bill)
...Mailing List - Non-Commercial Discussion Subject: RE: [asterisk-users] AMAFlags always"Documentation" (or 3 inastcdrmysql) even after Set(CDR(amaflags)=bill) or SetAMAFlags(bill) Already using the CDR(userfield), and overloading it with multiple variables will make some DB operations nastier to work with (I'm a little fuzzy and vague on exactly what... something to do with sql joins?). I'm digging deeper into how much pain it really causes us on the DB/App side to see if our work-arounds there are less painful than trying to get AMAFlags to work. It seems that AMAFlags are...

Wine NT Services / Serial Port
Hi! I'm currently working on a project to upgrade my car's display with NAV... Due to prohibitive high costs of oem solutions (and limited use except for nav), I decided to use a laptop, runnig that software... So, I already have MS Autoroute 2001 (european version). Against my expectations, this program runs fine with Wine release 20011004. However, the GPS Add-In doesn't work.

metapost device in R (again ;-)
Hi, I read the 2000 thread on a MetaPost device in R. If I understand correctly, the main problem with the concept is that R wants the device driver to give back information on the size of strings/labels. To the bet of my knowledge, MetaPost _does_ make it possible to measure the bounding box of text (see section 7.3: Measuring text in the MetaPost manual). For example, one could get the size of
