NetBIOS Nameresolution
I have installed a new Win 2003 Applicationserver in a Network with Samba 2.2.1a as PDC. Some clients are not able connect to the Server by entering "\\s-003" into Explorer. When i sniff the Network i can see that NetBIOS Name Resolution doesn't work properly. They get as a response to a name querry to the PDC a wrong Ip-Address back!! Does anybody know how this can happen and

DNS forwarding for guest domains on isolated network

But I'm not able to resolve domains from the outside world like github.com. I understood that libvirt is forwarding dns resolution requests to the hosts nameserver configured in /etc/resolv.conf in case the dnsmasq instance for the virtual network...

Can a router be a local master browser in a NT domain?
...the private namespace. The router masquerades the private IP's. The existing NT domain in B should be also accessible for NT clients in subnet A. For this reason I want samba to act as a local master browser for net A and to exchange browselists with the domain master browser in net B. Netbios nameresolution will be done via WINS. Domain Master Browser, PDC, WINS etc. are running on WinNT4.0 (SP3 or higher). If anyone has already setup Samba (2.0) to be a local master browser (without producing errors in the logfiles of the domain master browser), an example for smb.conf would be nice. Thank You for...

SRV-records not replicated with BIND9_DLZ
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I just set up a Domain with two DCs. I use Debian jessie the debian-pakages. And bind9 also from the debian repositories. After setting up the first DC everything was working fine. The nameresolution of hosts ans SRV-records worked. Then I set up a second DC also everything aut of the debian-box with bind9 as nameserver. The "join" and the replication of the database worked with no errormessage. BUT then I tested the DNS I saw that only the second DC got alle SRV-records: - -------...

scp setup jailed chroot on Centos7
...ainer > I would if I could but external offers only FTP and SCP... > > Regards Adrian AFAIK, for scp you need a proper shell. I've done that exactly once (chrooted ssh) and it was such a pain that I vowed to never do it again. The problem is that inside the chroot, you need: - nameresolution - a minimal passwd/shadow/group file (or ldap) - maybe for scp, you can get away with a rather minimal device-tree - but for actual SSH access, I needed a fairly complete device tree inside the chroot (ttys ...). - that was with FreeBSD 10, I never tried it with anything else (due to its h...

change password failed
I have configured samba as a PDC for our lab. I wish that users can change their password on any windows client machine of this domain. Now the users can logon to the domain on windows client machine, but when they press Ctrl+Alt+Del to change their domain password, the operation failed. Checking samba's log file, I found that 'auth 1 type failed'. I don't know what this meanes.

Hanging @ Sendmail During Boot
Hi All, I have a coupla queries about my 2 latest installs of CentOS 4-3. When I first installed and logged in as the initial user, everything went well, and the system was fast. A reboot, and 2nd login gave the same. But, upon connecting to the net, the system hung at sendmail for almost 4mins, and then gave an error at login about not finding the host, and that Gnome may not work

nmbd Hogging CPU on Mac OSX (10.5.4)
Hi All, Firstly, I know this is a MacOS X issue and not sure if you guys can help, but I'm really hoping you can since I don't appear to be getting any joy elsewhere. Running OSX 10.5.4 and recently (last week) nmbd is hogging the CPU. I know this is a part of the Samba server on OSX, hence the post to this mail-list. When I disconnect from the network, nmbd goes away and doesn't
