where do kernel data types come from?
I have a script where I can freely reference struct nameidata*, struct
vnode*, etc. on Snow Leopard.
How does DTrace know about these data types? I understand things like
#pragma D depends_on library darwin.d
where darwin.d has typedefs.
I can''t find definitions of nameidata and vnode in any D scripts,
though. How does it work?
Thanks, Joel...

How to get device name with device id?
Hi all,
I want to open a device(/dev/sda1, /dev/hda2 etc) in which my file exists.
I've used 'stat' system call to get the device id.
But now I want the device name from this id(st_dev).
How to get that one?
Or
Do you have any other method to know the device name where my file resides?
Thanks

Possible VFS KPI and KBI breakage on stable/7
...ots experienced by some users.
Since the only real consumer of the suspension is UFS, I believe that MFC
would have quite low impact, if any.
Corresponding revision is 183073.
2. The openat(2) and similar syscalls. The new ZFS requires openat()
functionality. We have to change struct nameidata to merge NDINIT_ATVP().
All modules using namei() need to be recompiled.
3. The Marcus' work on vn_fullpath() support for synthetic filesystems
introduces new VOP, vop_vptocnp.
This would allow procstat(1) to work on devfs and pseudofs vnodes.
As I understand, this would also imp...

[RFC] The reflink(2) system call.
Hi everyone,
I described the reflink operation at the Linux Storage &
Filesystems Workshop last month. Originally implemented as an
ocfs2-specific ioctl, the consensus was that it should be a syscall from
the get-go. Here's some first-cut patches.
For people who have not seen reflink, either at LSF or on the
ocfs2 wiki, the first patch contains

[PATCH 00/42] ocfs2: Add reflink file support. V1
Hi all,
So I have finally finished the v1 of reflink for ocfs2. It has some
bugs that I am still investigating, but the schema is almost there. So
I'd like to send it out first for review. And Tristan and I will
continue to work on the stability of the code.
The general information for reflink, please see

[PATCH 00/39] ocfs2: Add reflink file support. V3
Hi all,
So I have finally finished the v3 of reflink for ocfs2. The biggest
change is that we support 64bit cluster offset now(Thank Mark and Joel
for it).
