ACI appraisal program "freezes" when accessing SAMBA shares
...minute. Under SAMBA, it takes over 20 minutes. During this time, the smbd process grabs almost 100% cpu. Nothing showed up in a level 2 log, but a level 5 log contained the following call several thousand times, creating a 10MB log file in a couple minutes: [1999/06/02 16:04:25, 5] smbd/mangle.c:name_map_mangle(983) name_map_mangle( 39923411.aci, need83 = FALSE, cache83 = TRUE, 3 ) [1999/06/02 16:04:25, 5] smbd/mangle.c:name_map_mangle(1017) name_map_mangle() ==> [39923411.aci] [1999/06/02 16:04:25, 5] smbd/mangle.c:name_map_mangle(983) name_map_mangle( 32023360.aci, need83 = FALSE, cache83 = TRU...

Name mangling bug: was samba bug?
Hi James, this sounds familiar - I believe I looked at a wire trace, and windows is dropping the trailing dots BEFORE it sends the request over the wire. so samba never sees the name foo..., thus does not create it. Samba List: Any idea why a directory containing 376 sub-directories would only show 162 sub-directories via Windows Explorer? The machine is a Sun Ultra 1 running SunOS 5.5.1 and Samba 2.0.6. unix_convert cause of windows freeze?
...#39;ve got an application, ACI Rapid Research for Windows, which is causing me a ton of problems under SAMBA. When the program goes to create its own list of valid files to work from, it ends up calling unix_convert on each file in the directory. The problem is that unix_convert then goes and calls name_map_mangle() twice for every file in the directory -- and I've got 3025 files. That ends up being at least 3025 . 6050 calls -- a big number. It seems to be part of the cause of ACI hanging when it builds it's browselist. There seems to be a lot of other repetition going on, but this is as far as I&...
