Using extlinux
I am trying to boot Linux from a USB memory device containing an ext2 file system using extlinux and having a bit of trouble. Apologies for any naiive questions and assumptions. The USB device is an 8M byte Compact Flash card in a USB reader. I used fdisk to create a single partition across the whole of the device (partition 4 - is that important?) and made it bootable. Fdsik reported the partition table as: Disk /dev/sdc: 8 MB, 8224768 bytes 1...

non-infectious license for R package?
..., I assume a package (possibly in C or C++) is the most reasonable way? If yes, would such a package automatically be infected by the GPL? If the package links to (proprietary closed source) libraries to efficiently access the data, would the libraries in turn be infected? I'm asking this very naiively because I understand statement [1] in such a way that it is generally encouraged to make data available in R. Obviously open source is the preferred way, but my understanding is that also closed source extensions can add value and may be welcome. I was therefore hoping that somebody has prior ex...

NT Controller NETLOGON script hosing connects to Samba shares
Hello to all, Please forgive me if I seem naiive, but I'm a unix admin and don't do much with NT. We have an NT network here and a number of Unix servers. I manage the Unix end, someone else the NT network. I offer up homedirs and other shares to the NT clients to make their lives easier. Until recently, I set my Samba servers up with...

how can we help? was: Re: The delays on CentOS 5.6 are causing EPEL incompatibilities

[LLVMdev] about stackmap intrinsic
Dear All My MSc was about implementing some kind of On stack replacement in LLVM to enhance security by obfuscating running code periodically. I've tried to implement this job in JIT, but I couldn't. So I implemented it in interpreter, as an initial step. However, now I'm trying to make it in JIT. My first step is to extract function state at an arbitrary point. So, I interrupt

fxp performance with POLLING
Hello again :) With POLLING enabled I experience about 10%-25% performance drop when copying files over network. Tested with both SAMBA and NFS. Is it normal?
