List of packages in RHEL extras?
I'm subscribed to the Nahant list and noted someone complaining about the IBM version of Java. Whilst his problems would probably disappear by using the official Java from www.java.com, my question is what is the list of rpms in the extras ISO/channel? I know licencing and so on may mean they cannot be redistributed but i just...

Dovecot + OCFS2
Hello, We are running Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 4) with OCFS2 for our mail servers. There are three nodes in the cluster with shared storage and OCFS2 filesystem on it. The filesystem is used for mail storage(using Maildir layout) and is accessed by smtpd, pop3 and imap processes(DOVECOT). The system works fine but when there are maili...

The delays on CentOS 5.6 are causing EPEL incompatibilities
There are significant components of the upstream 5.6 release which are stuck behind the CentOS 5.6 release process, but are now incorporated in EPEL 5 components. In particular, the "php53" package is now necessary for the "drupal6" EPEL components, due to the long out of date PHP 5.1 in the default upstream vendor's codebase. I see that some of these components are

performance observation on redhat
Hi, I made an interesting observation using webservers (not just mongrel) under red hat enterprise linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 5). Maybe this is helpful or somebody with deeper networking expertise can comment on this. Once client said that 1-2% of the response of our server were unacceptably slow (really huge 3s-21s). So I did more ab and httperf tests and notice that very few requests do take a very long time....

Need SAN suggestion
Hello, It is not total off-topic since almost all connected servers will be RHEL and CentOS. :) We are considering to purchase new storage system. The most probably we will be choosing between HP (EVA6000), EMC (CX3-20C) and Hitachi (similar model). iSCSI connection is also required. What are your experienced with listed systems? What to avoid? What ot expect? Now I just know

cfq vs. deadline?
I understand Oracle currently recommends using the deadline scheduler because of a bug in cfq. In reading a recent thread on nahant- list at redhat.com, using the deadline scheduler on an NFS server reduced IO wait significantly. Also, the description of the deadline scheduler sounds like it would be ideal for databases. Does Oracle have any recommendation wrt. sticking with the deadline scheduler even after cfq is fixed? Kernel 2.6.9.42 (.0 and .0.2) Wireless Problems
WPA-2 (WPA Enterprise) fails with the new kernel(s) using ndiswrapper and wpa_supplicant. I haven't tried other authentication modes because that entails changes in the wireless setup which I am loathe to make right now. (It's a Broadcom mini pci card, so I have to use ndiswrapper with this Dell laptop. Bummer!). Rebuilding the newest wpa_supplicant rpm from the FC5 source rpm's

firefox 1.5.0.5 packages
I installed the new firefox 1.5.0.5 packages and had a few issues. I had read a similar post on the nahant list. I would doubt that this is a centos-induced problem. The browser crashed when opening the extensions manager and also with a very simple webmail page. I have reverted to the firefox 1.0.8 packages and these problems have disappeared.
