SAMBA Winbind and AIX and chown not showing ad user id
I changed the separator to + from / and now when I use
users=DOMAIN+mylogin, I get access to a share finally. However, when I
run chown DOMAIN+mylogin testdir, testdir is not set to DOMAIN+mylogin,
it is set to tempfn (temporary id is what the gecos/description says).
In aix land, what do I need to do to get it to use WINBIND to set the

How to control who can log into the samba box
Hello,
I have samba set up using winbind so that I can ssh into the box with
my DOMAIN\mylogin. That's great...kind of. How do I control which
users can login to the box? As it stands now, all users in DOMAIN can
log in, which is not desireable. Do I need to map domain groups to unix
groups? Do I need to map domain users to the box some how? Even if I do
that, how do I then set it...

ok - now how to access a share?
...control = yes
inherit permissions = Yes
inherit acls = Yes
[homes]
valid users = %S
browseable = No
read only = No
When I try to go the the server via \\sambaserver, it pops up a login
prompt. In log.winbindd it says
Could not query user's DOMAIN\mylogin uid
I am not really sure how all this works. Is my smb.conf correct?
wbinfo -u | grep mylogin returns my login, although they do not show up
with DOMAIN/mylogin (just mylogin). I am not sure what to do next.

combining two back ups...
Hello list,
See verbose background below[1]
I've just backed up my oldmachine that I have been using recently to an
external drive with:
sudo rsync -avuAESX /home /run/media/mylogin/Backup/home
I have a newmachine that I want to back up to the same destination and
merge to that backup because I'm about to send it away for repair -
which is why I've been using the oldmachine.
I'm concerned that I've replaced some of the files in the oldmachine
with symlinks...

SAMBA configuration nightmare (AIX) - idmaps do not work (core dump), ldap/nss_ldap and pam fail

happening. (After messing with all this, I was wondering why I even
need idmap, pam, or ldap capability anyway.) Still, it bugs me that I

Problem with different case logins
...he
user). The directory /var/lib/dovecot/postoffice belongs to
postoffice:mail. IMAP folders, indexes and stuff go here; normal mail goes
into /var/mail/%u. We are using dovecot 1.0alpha3 (upgrading to alpha4
soon).
Today we've found a grave problem. Let's suppose you have the login
"mylogin.domain.com". If you instead use the login "MYLOGIN.domain.com",
the authentication works anyway (which is Ok), but dovecot creates a new
directory under /var/lib/dovecot/postoffice with the different case, i.e.,
/var/lib/dovecot/postoffice/MYLOGIN.domain.com (which is not Ok).

The problem is I had only short connections. I mean, the log file tells
that users login for just 1 minute. I think maybe there is another samba
service that is making noise in the logfile. I mean other services are

Tricky Samba Issue
...*like* to have
the system automatically create home directories whenever a user connects,
but the default [homes] connection tries to connect to share <domain+user>
instead of <user>, which doesn't exist. Specifically, it gives me the
error "couldn't find service mydomain+mylogin" in my log.smbd file.
I though about using preexec to 'mkdir -p /home/%u', but that doesn't seem
to work (perhaps it doesn't get to the preexec part because the directory
doesn't exist?) Strangest part is that I create a /home/domain+user
directory, but it still gives the...

Do you have any ideas or suggestions?

Right way to customize Login Engine
I''ve got Login Engine installed as a plugin and it''s working. Now I
need to do some customization. First, the home page. This seems pretty
simple.
* Generate a new controller MyLogin
* Have it inherit from LoginController (require ''login_engine'')
* Override home
Is this right?
But what about customizing the view(s)? Should I be making new views
for MyLogin and will they get used instead?
I guess this is really a simple Ruby inheiritance question (or
