step definitons to check login
I am working with the authlogic gem and trying to create a simple login
test from cucumber features. The feature statement is:
Given the user is not logged in
The step definition for this is confounding me. In the
application_controller the authlogic tutorial recommends the following:

def require_user
unless current_user

stub_model() and ActiveRecord Associations
Hi all,
I have what I thought was quite a simple requirement but something to
do with the way ActiveRecord''s associations work is making it quite
puzzling.
I guess I can sum it up with this failing test:
before(:each) do
@source_comment = @source.comments.create(:user_id => 1)
@target_comment = @target.comments.create(:user_id => 1)
end

How much test data to use in specs
I''m not sure how much test data I should be using in my specs. I''m
writing specs for the Property model in my Rails app. Its "address"
attribute is going to be validated with this regex:
/\A\d+[a-z]? [-'', a-z]{2,128}\Z/i
At the moment, my plan is to spec out the following possibilities. A
property is invalid if its address:
1) doesn''t begin with

Controller spec: testing that scope is set
In a Rails controller I set the scope on a model class in an around
filter. I have defined expectations on the model classes, and ideally, I
would add a further expectation for the scope. Is this already possible
in some way? How would I go about adding support a scope expectation?

RSpec-Rails bug with to_xml?
Hello, everyone. I''ve been lurking here for a while, but this is my first post.
I think I''ve run into a RSpec bug in a Rails project I''m working on. I
was working on a few REST controllers, and started getting failures on
a specific spec that verified whether a certain action returned XML
output. I spent quite a lot of time checking my code to see if it was
something I

deprecate integrate_views, WDYT?
...best place
for that discussion. I wanted to make it more "visible" so it could
get wide community participation in case there are folks who
absolutely feel integrate_views is necessary (considering that we now
have Cucumber).

Mailing list playing catch up with anyone else?
Last night it seemed like the mailing list was playing catchup, as I got a
flood of emails from the past few days. Has anyone else seen this?

I found myself having to write this today:

ok = ok and other.include?(item)

a custom progress bar formatter
I''ve always been a little bit bemused by the default ruby test/unit and
rspec output. Basically, what I want is a progress bar and that any
errors and warnings be displayed immediately. I also want warnings to be
printed for slow specs. When using color, I want the entire progress bar
printed in green if everything is good, yellow if there has been a
warning, and red if there has been an

Problems when programmatically defining examples

I am trying to code an application that is based on Rspec; I am
programmatically building examples, and launching the runner with a custom
formatter. Here are the code snippets from my app:

Simple code dosn't work
I think you have a syntactical error on the line thats throwing the
error, you state:

should this line not read as:
j.even?.should be true

Rails: View specs and implicit parameters in link_to()
Hi all,
I''ve been cleaning up our routing file, and removed the default
map.connect ":controller/:action" route.
It''s thrown up a bunch of sloppy mistakes, which is great, but I also
think I''ve found a problem with the view specs.
We have a generic navbar partial which is rendered in the index page
of several different controllers. The navbar contains

RecordNotFound bubbling thru to cucumber
Hello,
I have a controller action that raises a RecordNotFound exception if
you''re not allowed to see something. In my global application
controller (application.rb), I catch these and render the 404
template. But when I run cucumber (using webrat), it''s getting the
full stacktrace (the step blows up). Any ideas why? I have
consider_all_requests_local turned off in my test.rb.
