Managing rc.conf in FreeBSD?
I''m, still, working on converting my cfengine configs into puppet; one
of the major hang-ups is the lack of any find/replace in puppet.
So for those of you who are using FreeBSD and puppet, how do you
manage you rc.conf?

class imports?
...ass nfs_server { import "nfs.pp"}
class openldap { import "openldap.pp" }
--
But my client is trying to realize all of these, even though I don''t
have any nodes defined.
Can I use classes and imports this way?

Missed calls and groups
...ialplan that ring groups of phones eg:
exten => 200,1,Dial(Sip/112&SIP/113&SIP/114)
and I don't want such calls being recorded by the phone as a missed
call.
Calls to the specific phone I do want displayed so just disabling the
Missed Calls feature on the phone doesn't cut the mustard.
Ideas?
(I'd also want this to work with Queues but let's see about the basics
first)

pupped on the puppetmaster: cert problems
...t the
certificates to be readable and chmod 600. I tried telling puppetd to
use it''s own directory for certs, but because the host already has a
certificate created by puppetmasterd it still fails?
Can anybody suggest a workaround?

Download and upload independency
Hello everyone:
As it is known, when you limit uplink bandwidth it usually gets downlink
bandwidth to a lower value.
I just want to know what is the optimal configuration for eth1 and imq0
according to some variables of tc(HTB), txqueuelen, mtu, etc. to make
these packet flows less independent on an ethernet based network.
Thank you in advance.

DesignPatterns part 2: humane class names with namespaces
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Dear list!
In an effort to get feedback and spread the word, here follows the second
article about possibilities to structure manifests. These Design Patterns are
more general than the typical Puppet Recipie and will receive a own page on
the wiki when I collect enough[1] material.
To the meat: humane class names with namespaces

cvs bulid breaks on slackware
cvs code from this morning (about 9am PST) breaks on slackware 7.1 w/ gcc
2.95.2.1 with an undefined reference to session_setup_sia in session.o.
this seems to be the culprit here:
#ifdef HAVE_OSF_SIA
#else /* HAVE_OSF_SIA */
session_setup_sia(pw->pw_name, ttyname);
since i have no idea what that's trying to accomplish (and seems to be a bit
backwards to me from looking

cert problem with client
I recently had a working puppet server serving around 4-5 clients. One of
the clients needed to be re-built and now only that client cannot connect.
puppetca --clean hostname did not work
So here is what I did on both the server/client I removed /var/lib/puppet/*
Then I restarted the server via
puppetmasterd --mkusers --verbose
I then connect in via the client with
/usr/bin/ruby

Best Practice? Referencing a remote reporting server
Hello All,
I''m using SQL Server Reporting Services for my reporting needs. (Sorry, the
ruby solutions don''t cut my mustard... yet)
What would you all suggest the [Ruby|Rails]Way to encode the urls for my
reports.
Report server URLS:
http://servercomputer/reportserver/appname/[reportfolder/..]reportname?option_a=value&option_b=value
So, the "project-level'' part of the url is
http://servercomputer/re...

Parity between native types and defined types
...a variety of resources under a common namespace.
However, I can''t seem to get the namespacing going right.
With a defined type, I can do this:
define backup_ninja::config(blah, baz) {
...
}
But that''s not much use to me, as a defined type just isn''t going to cut the
mustard -- I''m after a parsed file type.
When I try to do this, instead (in a file named backup_ninja::config.rb):
Puppet::Type.newtype(''backup_ninja::config'') do
...
end
and this in site.pp:
node ''hussy'' {
backup_ninja::config { ''/tmp/bn.conf...

UK encryption proposals (fwd)
Hi,
For anyone who is interested I, emailed the Economist about the UK
encryption proposals (anyone who knows anything about British
newspapers will realize that this is the only one that cuts the
mustard) and this is the reply I received:

ssl-cert's
I am not familiar with the usage of SSL-Certs (in Icecast).
I'd recommend to put them somewhere into a folder the webserver has
access to.
Don't forget to change ownership and mode etc.
check this out about you problem with the files ->

bizare soap4r problem
Hey chaps
I am using classes I generated from wsdl2ruby, and they work like a
charm when running somthing like:
ruby -d path/to/file.rb
and i get the result I expect. However, when I use them within rails,
the actual xml it puts together is different. Using wire dump i see that
(and this is a key part of the web service) looks like:

Extract rows from a list object
Dear list members,
I need to create a table from a huge list object,
this list consists of matrices of the same size (but with different
content).
The resulting n tables should contain the same rows from all matrices.
For example:
n <- 23
x <- array(1:20, dim=c(n,6))
huge.list <- list()
for (i in 1:1000) {
huge.list[[i]] <- x }
# One of 1000 matrices
huge.list[[1]][1:4, 1:6]
