glm.predict?
I've been attempting to calculate the predictions from a poisson glm object, along these lines: predict(foo.glm, type = "response") and predict(foo.glm, type = "response", se.fit = TRUE) foo.glm is arrived at this way: foo.glm <- glm(Insects ~ Dad * Mum + Location, offset = log(MM), family = "poisson", data = model.df) There are two levels for Dad and three each for Mum and Location but the numbers of each level vary considerably. The help file for predict.glm tells us that the returned value is: If `se = FALSE...

How to add a welcome message in Package development?
...I want to add some ***Welcome message*** as soon as user loads my package into their R console, using library() function. However I could not figure out where and how should I add this functionality in entire package development procedure, and the "Writing R Exts" document also seem to be mum on this issue. Can somebody help me how to add this functionality in the development route of package. I believe this is possible as in many existing packages that functionality is present. Thanks,

Why Windows sucks.
...ss-action litigation, a demand for Bill Gates' cute little geeky head on a platter." Maybe people are finally starting to wake up on this. My 77 year old Mum has been running on Linux now for 2 years - I only set her up with an Internet account once I'd moved her over. I remote manage it from here (Cupertino, CA - USA). She never has any problems. I don't think she knows what a virus is :-)....

?barracuda? listing in logwatch session 123 of user root.
My nightly logwatch report had a never before seen section last night, "barracuda spam firewall". I have not problem with the emails it noted as being rejected. But I've always thought of "barracuda" as a commercial product. I have neither configured nor enabled any barracuda software and "yum list '*barrac*'" comes up empty. What is this? Jon -- Jon

Fast Ruby Debugger?
After developing in Java for years in IDEs I''m starving for a decent ruby debugger. When learning new codebasesI find it invaluable to use the debugger to step through the system and see how things work at runtime. Using RDT in Eclipse is fine but it''s excruciating to wait minutes for the default debugger to finally reach my breakpoints on tests that normally take seconds to
