File Locking on Samba & Terminal Server 2008R2
...might legitimately open multiple files with the same name, but different network locations. Samba reports files that are locked by other users when, in fact, they are different files and should have different locks. Once upon a time, there was a registry parameter (Win2k - 2003, I suppose) called MultiUserEnabled that allowed you to adjust the behavior of Windows in this regard. However, several indications (from Microsoft TechNet pages) are that this particular option was not rolled into Server 2008/2008R2. An HP article from the Windows NT 4 days had several work-arounds, but none of these are practical...

Hi, has somebody found a solution for the single smbd process opened on a samba server by TS 2008? Or found the correct syntax for multiuserenable on Windows 2008 server? Thanks, Emanuele

Problem with Samba and Windows Terminal Server 2008
...it can't access one of the files on one of the shares. I have read that this problem is likely to be due to the fact that we run one machine as a terminal server and there is only one netbios host being used by mutliple people. The paper I have read from HP refers to registry key called "MultiUserEnabled" on earlier versions of windows terminal server needs to be set to 1 in order for the father smbd process to recognise different sessions connecting from the one host.
