There are a **bunch** of new features: * TextMate bundle * New versions of the Drag and Drop tools * support for math * improved XSLT style sheets - easier to customize and...

MultiMarkdown Announcements
I know things have been quiet lately, but I wanted to announce a couple of MultiMarkdown related happenings: 1. I am in the process of creating a new website, and MultiMarkdown is one of the first things to be moved. The new address is <http:// fletcherpenney.net>. A new look, a new URL, some new technology, and some new content. I have not moved much from the old site y...

Universal syntax for Markdown
Hi, because of the great editor "Writer" from Information Architects I've learned about Markdown and I love it. But it's very confusing, that there are so many standards with different features: classical Markdown, Markdown Extra, MultiMarkdown. I think for most users and the spreading of Markdown it would be nice, to have only one syntax. And this universal syntax should have the additions of MultiMarkdown: footnotes, tables, definition lists, citation, metadata (author, title, date), and so on... Because I think many people would like...

Fwd: [MMD] MMD-Edit is progressing nicely

It?s based on work described in another post, but briefly it performs syntax highlighting of MultiMarkdown syntax. > > Additionally, it now calculates tabstops to make the metadata and tables look better. To take advantage of this, you need a tab between the metadata key and the value, and a leading tab at the beginning of each line for any values that span multiple lines. > > As for table...

maybe a year ago, but not today
...he past, yes, but not today". here's the deal... in the dayes of olde, all of the markdown variants were roughly equal in power, which is why their standoff was so intractable, and ended up persisting for so very long. then 6 things happened. pandoc assessed 'em all, and decided on multimarkdown. i don't think y'all here appreciated the importance of that. macfarlane is perhaps _the_ smartest guy in light-markup and he researched the question carefully, so his decision is one that we can safely assume to be the wisest one around. even more importantly, john rewrote the parser. a...

MultiMarkdown 2.0.b5 Released
I have released version 2.0.b5 of MultiMarkdown today. As always, it can be downloaded from: <http://files.fletcherpenney.net/MultiMarkdown.zip> Some of the changes include: * spaces at end of xslt filenames won't cause failure * use `\url{}` for "non-referenced" url's in LaTeX to allow linebreaks (though they...

MultiMarkdown and MathML - new feature and request for help
A lot of people have expressed interest in combining math features with Markdown, but I am not aware of any real developments from these requests. I was looking around and toying with [ASCIIMathPHP](http:// www.jcphysics.com/ASCIIMath/) and integrated it with MultiMarkdown and my xhtml2latex XSLT transforms. You can include math as an inline formula by using a markup similar to inline code, such as ``x^2 + y^2 = 1`` (note the double ``). You can include a formula as a separate paragraph in the same way, or with a leading tab like: `x_(1,2) = (-b+-sqrt(b^2-4...

markdown conversion routines
i am considering writing converters between my "zen markup language' and "markdown", but i don't know which version of markdown to target. i'd think it'd be the "pandoc" version, and i understand that to be closest to "multimarkdown", but gruber has said he "disagrees" with "almost every part" of multimarkdown's syntax additions... specifically, on 2008/03/14, gruber said: > I despise what you've done with Text::Markdown, > which is to more or less make it an alias for > Mu...

toast, history, sayonara
ok, while i was in the process of writing that last post, fletcher and john weighed in themselves. that's good. i can say some things that they can't, though, so i will. fletcher told you how multimarkdown is booming, and it was an impressive list. what you might not realize is, he _undersold_ it. it is even bigger than he described, and it's gonna _double_ in size in the next six months. all you other variants are toast. even if you all could manage to form a consensus (yeah, right, like t...

can you see the present? -- august 1st
ok, so let's take stock of things on the first of august... fletcher penney has updated multimarkdown to 3.1... plus he's working on finalizing his editor-app, which it seems he has christened as "multimarkdown composer". brett terpstra is rewriting-from-scratch his "marked" app. ("better sooner than later", he says.) from my experience, i decide to rewrite-from...

possible bug in PHP Markdown implementation of footnotes, as well as request for standardized XHTML output
...mple Section> When I try this, the footnote contains the expected portion through the first paragraph of the following section of text (i.e. the first paragraph of `Structure`. Issue # 2. I would like to work towards a single consensus output format for the footnote syntax as well --- MultiMarkdown and PHP Markdown should have the same output format for compatibility reasons. The current PHP output for the above (after it gets fixed) will be: <div class="footnotes"> <hr /> <ol> <li id="fn:snippets"> <p>An XHTML snippet is my terminol...

RFC: Markdown Table Syntax
...e I saw that post, I went ahead and finished my proposal as an informal request for comments, which I've [blogged here][]: [blogged here] http://www.justatheory.com/computers/markup/markdown-table-rfc.html The high-level overview is this: * I looked at prior art from database clients and MultiMarkdown * I identified a few things I liked in the DB clients that aren't in MultiMarkdown (continuing lines, implicit cell alignment) * I offered some refinements of the MultiMarkdown syntax Those refinements, in a nutshell, are, simply: * Implicit cell alignment using space characters, rather th...

doesn't that make you wonder?
...e same about all the ipad editing apps. they show great promise, and the might be competitors to you long-term, but for the here-and-now, they'll still have to prove themselves. so as far as i can see, your competition is "marked.app" and the still-forthcoming-but-any-day-now "multimarkdown composer". and yeah, both of those are offline entities, so you might think that they can't compete, by definition. but i'd say you're wrong. first of all, let's grant that they are both _very_powerful_, in the exact manner that we can expect offline applications to shine....

attribute blocks for definition lists
Hello, As I am using markdown to write documentation, I am often tempted to make links to terms in definition lists. Since this is not possible for now (at least in php markdown extra), I was wondering if this could be a common addition in major implementation supporting definition lists. the syntax would be term {#id} : definition This syntax tries to follows current convention and

Paragraph tags around <div> blocks
...nk. Yes the div tag is starting at the first column It displays as intended. Firefox's browser is clever, but it won't validate, and given all the whinging I've done about non-validating web pages, I better get mine right. I'm processing with template toolkit. If I turn off the multimarkdown filter, this is what's being passed: 32 <div class="sidepix"> 33 <img src="/Images/sidepix/rotate.php" 34 alt = "Random scenic picture" /> 35 </div> 36 </div> 37...
