rsyncd logging to multilog / stdout
I was looking for suggestions on how I could get rsyncd to send its log information to multilog, and I came across this post: http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=rsync&m=105034709927741&w=2 Is there any initiative to integrate this or something like it into the rsync base? It would be a really useful feature for people who run rsync under process supervision. Toby

how to handle logging
Hello, I plan a migration to dovecot and have concerns about the amount of logged data. On a testsystem dovecot produced 1TB syslog per day with a comparable amount of pop3 sessions. The current server log to STDOUT which is connected to multilog (circular buffer, http://cr.yp.to/daemontools/multilog.html) That way I can have a look at the last activities to any time. I like to have that in dovecot too. But since dovecot uses syslog it's not possible to adopt 1:1 Any ideas? Thanks -- Andreas Schulze Internetdienste | P252 DATEV eG...

Logging with multilog?
Has anyone tried setting up shorewall/netfilter with an alternative logging process, such as multilog? Is this even possible? If this would be better asked on the netfilter list, just let me know. Just wondering... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Shawn Wright, I.T. Manager Shawnigan Lake School http://www.sls.bc.ca swright@sls.bc.ca

Is there a universal package to call application files of other stat programs using their application files. p.s. mcl models, percentages
...ation is to estimate loglinear models for sqaure tables (e.g. quasi-independence, quasi-symmetry) with covariates. The mcl package therefore contains a number of functions for models for square tables as well. A caveat is that "clogit" in R doesn't produce the same estimates as "multilog", although the likelihood functions for both models are the same. The maximum absolute difference is 0.0034, the mean absolute difference is 0.00069. Stata's "clogit" and "mlogit" produce the same estimates and match those of "multilog" to at least 6 decimal p...

Portable OpenSSH 2.5.1p1: daemontools-aware?
Does this version implement the ability to be run under Dan Bernstein's supervise/multilog utilities? I.e. can sshd be told not to daemonize and log all messages to stdout/stderr instead of syslog? Thanks, -- Jos Backus _/ _/_/_/ "Modularity is not a hack." _/ _/ _/ -- D. J. Bernstein...

Implications of the "-i" switch to s/nmbd ...
Hi, (3.0.21b, OpenBSD -current) I'm trying to get the smbd and nmbd processes to run under daemontools and to log to multilog. Using the -F -S switches should work, and is widely cited in google searches, but logging to multilog stops shortly after the daemons start. The last message that goes to multilog is standard input is not a socket, assuming -D and from then on logging goes to the standard samba log file. If I...

Can this be done with PXELinux?
Hi This is what I like to be able to do. 1. Computer boot on LAN, using PXELinux. 2. If the computer is booting for the first time it sends MAC adr, RAM, size of harddrive and name of videocard to a shared folder on a computer, maybe a server, that is attached to the network. 3. If this is not the first time it scan for a new task, could be a new ghostimage or an unattended installation of a

Patch for stderr logging
Rsync team, and interested parties: i was attempting to get rsync to launch from tcpserver[0] (an inetd replacement from djb) and log to stderr for logging via multilog[1] (syslog replacement by djb) and i was unable to get it to log to stdout/ stderr at all. [0] http://cr.yp.to/ucspi-tcp/tcpserver.html [1] http://cr.yp.to/daemontools/multilog.html i have attached a patch that allows ``log file=/dev/stderr'' to work. additionally, since multilog...

...imply "not allow" large chunks of the internet to connect at all to certain ports. (I use this for SSH in particular since all the kids love throwing dictionary attacks around). I'd like to give my POP3 ports equivalent protection. I also like the logging facilities of the supervise / multilog service. To use this I'd need Dovecot to accept the connection handed to it, and not do the whole setsid daemon thing since tcpserver will start another one if needed. I can send the logging out to stderr (thanks!) and get the logging stuff but still wondering about the 'hand you a connect...

But it appears that the general list is mostly utilized as a SPAM vector and/or is absentee moderated (the message has yet to make it to the archives, despite being dated days earlier than messages which are there). In any event, I'd like to know if anyone could provide me with some more information than is available in the manpages, FAQ, and other

I''m tracking performance on the machine I installed yesterday. mutt running on one Xen instance, accessing via imap to another instance, accessing via nfs the maildir in another instances, seems little laggy when moving up and down the message index list. Network latency seems low < 30ms on average. So I was tracking vmstat. On the mutt instances is seems reasonable: [nic@shell:~]
