Hello Centos,
Is 4:perl-5.8.8-43.el5_11.x86_64 really dependent on the 32 bit perl.i386
4:5.8.8-43.el5_11 as yum is suggesting, or has something got mixed up on
the system?

CentOS-5 has a default value for the yum setting "multilib_policy" of
"all", where on CentOS-6 or later, the default value of
"multilib_policy" is "best". See this link for details:

CentOS6: installing 32bit and 64bit RPMS via the installer?
Installing 64bit CentOS6 only installs x86_64 and noarch RPMS - however,
I have a number of legacy 32bit apps that require a number of 32bit RPMS
to be installed.
Does anyone know how to get the installer to install the 32bit versions
of 64bit RPMS? i.e. in the way it does for CentOS5.
Thanks

Cons of disabling *.i386 and *.i686 in a 64bit Distribution
Can anybody give me a reason why this would be a bad idea. So the premise
for this question is that I setup an exclude=*.i368,*.i686 in my yum.conf.
While doing a yum update I come across missing package dependencies for
instance mkinitrd for the i386 package. I noticed there is already one for
x86_64. I realized during the kickstart install that some of these *.i386
got installed before I

Update from 7.3 to 7.4 failing because of architecture change from PPC64 to PPC
Yep. This worked. Thanks!
Why yum can't figure this out itself?

Update from 7.3 to 7.4 failing because of architecture change from PPC64 to PPC
...h file gets obsoleted by an $arch type rpm and there are 2
(multi) arches available to replace it. It pulls in BOTH, not just the
one arch you have installed .. and that then pulls in deps for the 2nd
arch that you don't currently have.
Hopefully they will fix this.
There is an option called multilib_policy BUT that does not work with
obsoletes, only updates.
