Patches to enable MTUs >1500 in el5.6 ready for testing.
Hi all, With help from others, I''ve been able to get Olaf''s patch for enabling MTUs >1500 for vifX.y and tapZ devices working. I''ve been able to boot dom0, launch domU and live-migrate without having the bridge''s MTU degrade at any time. Would the Xen RPM maintainers (and others) mind taking a look at the following patches? Kernel part: https://bugzilla.re...

Jumbo Frame performance or lackof?
..., I was surprised to discover although I had two seemingly identical Realtek PCI-E nics, the sending NIC could only go up to 4K. I'm wondering, that since Jumbo Frames was supposed to be better for bulk transfers, why am I seeing these results? Is it the ElRepo drivers I used to enable higher MTUs or possibly some kind of oddity with the realtek NICs I am using? Or am I mistaken about the benefits of jumbo frames and that they are only beneficial in specific configurations, perhaps only with higher network speeds and enough packets at 1500 MTU to overwhelm packet handling hardware?

Can't see more than 8 files? MTU-ish issue?
...y. However, the firewall policy doesn't limit anything (and wouldn't it break Windows too?) Does this ring any bells with anyone? The firewalls are Juniper Netscreens at both ends, for what it's worth. I've had a google around, and I can't see anything related to packet size or MTUs, which is what it smells like to me... (presumably the 9th filename ends up in a second packet, or a certain sized response). Thanks in advance for any pointers, Howie

sshd dies when starting gkrellm
...sshpam_thread_cleanup entering debug1: session_pty_cleanup: session 0 release /dev/pts/23 Feedback on one of the FreeBSD forums suggested that the MTU on the routers might be less than what the machines was using, and that excessive fragmentation might be causing the connection to die. The router MTUs were 1492, and the system MTUs were 1500. Unfortunately, reducing the systems' MTUs to 1400 did not affect the problem but at least I have less fragmentation now. I've tried every config option and commandline switch that looked even remotely related, but nothing has affected it. -ddd -v...

How can I set the advertised value of MTU for virbr0 interface?
Hi all, I want to set the advertised value of MTU for virbr0 interface on a Fedora 21 host to 1454 to accommodate the installation of new VMs for testing purposes. The aforementioned host is an OpenStack VM actually, which explains the need for a lower than 1500 MTU. I noticed Pieter Hollants' patch to set dhcp-option=<number>,"<value>" for an interface, but

OpenSSH Hangs After Successful Authentication
Greetings... ** Short Description / Abstract ** Using my _internal_ WiFi card, OpenSSH succeeds to local (internal) LAN hosts, but hangs after authentication to external LAN hosts; however PuTTY works for all hosts. Using an _external_ WiFi card, OpenSSH does succeed to all LAN hosts (as did PuTTY, still, as well). ** Longer Description and Details ** *** HW Description *** I have a laptop

SSH hang question
Very rarely, but it has repeated, we see openssh on the client side hanging. On the server side there is no indication of connection in the logs. These are always scripted remote commands that do not have user interaction when we find it. This seems to be happening only in vm environments but I could be wrong. It seems surprising to me that there would not be timeouts and retries on the protocol,

Xen + IPv6 + Netapp = NFS read problem
...6 - Xen_domU-IPv6(via_bridge with eth interface set into promiscuous mode) - WRITE OK, READ 20-25Bytes/s !!! 6) Linux_server_IPv6 (regadless bare metal, dom0 or domU) - - Xen_domU-IPv6(via_bridge) - ALL FINE All mounts use NFS version 3 and proto tcp6. We checked MTUs - everywhere 1500. No errors on any side (switch, netapp, linux clients)... IPv4 connections performs just fine. ssh/scp and others IPv6 services perform OK ... Any hints? We think of throwing Xen away :-/ Kind regards, Grzegorz

Re: How can I set the advertised value of MTU for virbr0 interface?
...ltered MTU to domains. Does this virbr0 come from the default libvirt network? If so, I am afraid there's no way how to specify MTU. What you could do, is to define <interface/> [1] and then bridged <network/> [2] that will use the interface. Libvirt already has support for setting MTUs for host interfaces. e1000e NIC and MTU issues
...at this is an issue with the interrupt coalescing behavior of the NIC, and its interactions with Xen networking. Is the behavior of e1000e to different MTU settings well-known ? However, when I do the throughput measurement between the hosts (dom0s and not domUs), I do not see any degradation with MTUs >= 1501. Any ideas? packet counts: twice as high on one leg?
...he provider<>asterisk for the DID). The "bad" phone shows roughly twice the number of packets on the phone<>asterisk session as on the other two sessions. The "good" phone shows roughly equal packet counts on each of the 3 sessions. I've used asterisk server MTUs of 1440 and 1500, but it makes no difference. Is this double-packet-count a clue, a problem, or a red herring? The packet counts are shown using "sip show channelstats". - Mike

[PATCH] Increase MAX_SKBUFF_ORDER

Could this be applied to make it the default? Thanks, Phil Signed-Off-by: Philip Auld <pauld@egenera.com> diff -r 136b2d20dc81 linux-2.6-xen-sparse/arch/xen/kernel/skbuff.c ---
