Sendmail burst of "rejecting connections" - why?

Dovecot MTA
Hi all, I've never really wanted to create my own MTA, because I like Postfix quite a lot. And I always thought it would require a horribly lot of time to be able to create something that was anywhere even close to having Postfix's features. (I would shudder to even think about recreating Dovecot from scratch nowadays.) But slowly over time I'...

Lightweight LMTP daemon to avoid overkill MTA
...hinking of using Dovecot submission to relay to the external relaying cluster. So, both relaying and routing are done externally - the Dovecot machine should only store mail. Of course, there should also be a mechanism that takes care of local delivery to Dovecot, like LMTP. Usually, I would use an MTA like Exim to take care of local delivery. I feel like a fully-featured MTA is overkill, though, as all other roles such an MTA would fulfill - relaying and spam filtering - are fulfilled on external servers. Q: Does anyone know of a lightweight LMTP daemon that can take care of local delivery to D...

Wanting to seperate MTA and Imap
Hi Current my set up is that the MTA and Dovecot (maildir) is on the same machine. Ive been asked to seperate the services from the same machine (too would like to add a secondary MTA - but thats future ideas). I read the documentation on NFS, but from other sites i have read. Most say this is NOT the best solution. My question is,...

Exim as default MTA?
Yes, I've been reading /. :) But this isn't the first time this has occured to me. With all the security vulnerbilties, would it be unreasonable to either change the default MTA from sendmail to Exim/Qmail/Postfix, or give people the option of installing something instead of Sendmail at install time? -- Avleen Vig "Say no to cheese-eating surrender-monkeys" Systems Admin "Fast, Good, Cheap. New Dovecot service: SMTP Submission (RFC6409)
Hi, As some of you know, I started implementing the SMTP submission proxy a few years ago. It acts as a front-end for any MTA, adding the necessary functionality for an SMTP submission service, also known as a Mail Submission Agent (MSA) (https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6409). The main reason I created this, back then, was implementing the BURL capability (https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4468). The main application of that...

pigeonhole ereject vs reject
Currently pigeonhole supports reject which would generate a NDR for each message. (If I understand the current documentation) Using Dovecot LMTP it would be more optimal to kick a 5xx back to the primary MTA to reject the delivery rather than generating more back scatter NDRs. Anyone know if this is possible now (to forgo the NDR)'s or do we need to wait for ereject ? If so, how much work is involved? -- Robert inoc.net!rblayzor http://inoc.net/
