Applying multiple functions to one object
Dear list members,
I recall seeing a convenience function for applying multiple functions to
one object (i.e., almost the opposite of 'mapply?) somewhere.
Example: If the function was named ?fun? the output of
fun(3.14, mode, typeof, class)
would be identical to the output of
c(mode(3.14), typeof(3.14), class(3.14))
Is my memory failing me, or does such a function already exists in a

Effect size in multiple regression
Dear all,
is there a convenient way to determine the effect size for a regression
coefficient in a multiple regression model?
I have a model of the form lm(y ~ A*B*C*D) and would like to determine
Cohen's f2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effect_size) for each predictor
without having to do it manually.

ggplot2 / reshape / Question on manipulating data
I'm an R newbie but recently discovered the ggplot2 and reshape
packages which seem incredibly useful and much easier to use for a
beginner. Using the data from the IMDB, I'm trying to see how the
average movie rating varies by year. Here is what my data looks like:

problem in applying function in data subset (with a level) - using plyr or other alternative are also welcome

Summary tables of large datasets including character and numerical variables

I am attempting to switch from being a long time SAS user to R, and would
really appreciate a bit of help ! The first thing I do in getting a large
dataset (thousands of obervations and hundreds of variables) is to run a SAS
command PROC CONTENTS VARNUM command - this provides me a table with the
name of each variable, its type and length; then I run a PROC MEANS - for
numerical
