Wine registry format question
In the reg files there is a number at the end of every section/key property. Example:
[System\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\VxD\\MSTCP] 1296424715
What is the purpose of "1296424715"? Is this a time stamp or checksum?

Samba performance on Fast Ethernet networks when linked to Win95
..., when off, transfer time was 3 minutes
for the same file
TCP_NODELAY - very important , when off , transfer time was 1 minute
max xmit - important , 10-20 sec variations
read size - not very important (5-10 sec variations)

TCPWINDOWSIZE : transfer time is bigger, sometimes even double.

TCP), most of the relevant settings are all lumped under
...\VxD\MSTCP. The only way I could see to use the right settings
for each application is to remove the DUN settings when I want to
use the samba server, and put them back when I need to dial out
(pretty ugly and painful solution).
I upgraded the samba package that came with RedHat4.2 to 1.9.17p4,
but that...

Network Path could not be found on HP with XP
We have one brand new HP EPC-43 which can see all the Windows boxes, but
not the Samba shares on the Unix server. We have many other Windows
machines of all vintages including 95, 98, 98se, NT, 2000, ME and XP which
can see each other and the Samba server. The HP runs XP, but we have other
XP boxes which have no difficulty with Samba.
We have a simple network with no domain controller, just
