Win2k - samba-2.2.8a - can't get above 4MB/sec
...ad and write) on the disk subsystem so I know that's not a limiting factor. (not bad for software RAID, SCSI UW2 max theoretical throughput is 40MB/sec!) I have read the various TCP/IP and throughput tuning documentation for Win2k (and WinNT) found on various sites, including MSDN and the MSKB. My maximum window size is 128k, MTU is 1500 (well auto-discover but packet traces show that this is where it was autonegotiated at)... TCP window scaling is on and so on and so forth... I don't need TCP/IP tuning, I need CIFS and NBT tuning. No matter what I do I can't get Win2k to...

Printing w/ CUPS
When using CUPS with Samba 2.2.x do all printers need to be installed per user? That is, can I not go through as administrator in WinXP and install all of the printers for, say, a group of labs, and then have them installed and available to have them set as the default w/ a script as users login as domain users? ...files on the server. The server is Debian GNU/Linux "stable" with samba 2.2.8a from the unofficial http://www.perrier.eu.org/samba-debian repository. The smb.conf file is at http://zwitterion.org/test/smb.conf On Monday, I'm visiting the site and will go though the relevant parts of MSKB article 236319. Where should I look next? Windows XP, samba 2.2.7a; delayed write failure
...d the following resources that purport to address this issue: M$ knowledge base article discussing the "Delayed Write Failed" error, but restricted to Windows 2000 (Server,Advanced Server,Professional) installations. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;321733 This MSKB suggests changing the following parameter on the server: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters enablesecuritysignature=0 However, I find no such parameter or discussion of such parameter (naturally) in the samba docs, because of course, I'm running Samba, not a W...

Both subnets have samba servers and they are the master browsers. The two browse.dat files do NOT contain the h...

Strange problem with icons!
Check out these MSKB articles. They describe how shortcuts are resolved. In particular, the last one describes the process required to "fix" this behaviour. I had a LOT of trouble when I first set up my LAN because people had a nasty habit of sharing drive C (even I used to do this until I discovered that...
