Unusable Font after upgrading to wine 1.4 (Ubuntu 12.04)
Hello,
today I upgraded my system from Kubuntu 11.04 to 12.04 and installed wine 1.4.
Now, most my Windows apps (e.g. the "configure wine" program) have ugly, almost unreadable fonts
TTF-Fonts are installed and working properly when explicitly chosen, but all the "standard" fonts (like for menus, window titles and so on) are bold, grainy and not anti aliased.
I don't know

Hi Ilia,
I'm running Arch Linux, R 3.4.0.
Here's my test.pdf from your minimal example: https://ptpb.pw/HxsA.pdf

Here's a post that I wrote when I solved my last font problem in R,

I had to install some Microsoft font packages, which is sad, because

How can I install Wine on a computer without internet access
Hi,
Couldn't find the answer searching the forum.
I would like install Wine on a system that has Ubuntu 9.10 but NO access to the Internet.
I have another system with Ubuntu 8.04 which can access Internet, but the instructions at http://www.winehq.org/download/deb
seem to imply that it would install the Wine on my 8.04 machine.
Is there any binary I could download that I could put on a

Lucida Sans Unicode
Is there an easy workaround for not having the Lucida Sans Unicode font under Wine? Can this lack of what is standard (at least for WinXP I think) be considered a bug? (if so, I will start a new bug # for it).

[Rd] italic font on cairo devices in R 3.4
Interesting. I did not have the package installed, but I did at some
point extract Helvetica from some MacOSX font files and R was using that
just fine until 3.3. This is how the plot looks in 3.4 (still using
Helvetica): https://ptpb.pw/HikX.pdf . After removing Helvetica,
installing the ttf-mscorefonts-installer package, and running fc-cache
--force the plot looks like this: https://ptpb.pw/CM8A.pdf
Also note that the standard pdf device works fine:
https://ptpb.pw/3Ml1.pdf , it's just the cairo devices (both pdf and
svg) that have the issue. Unfortunately I need to use cairo_pdf due to...

The second plot looks worse, in other words, and the Microsoft fonts
didn't help.
Maybe the Cairo device should be giving better warning messages.
Anyway it sounds like you are describin...

PLoS, Arial, R & linux
Greetings All.
According to the PLoS (Public Library of Science) Guidelines
for Figure preparation, if a figure is submitted as EPS rather
than TIFF then "Figure text must be in Arial font" -- see:

and also other sections in that web-page

italic font on cairo devices in R 3.4
Hi all,
I have the following problem: Since R 3.4.0, italic fonts rendered on
Cairo devices appear pixelated. Here's a minimal example:
cairo_pdf('test.pdf')
plot(1:10, ylab=expression(italic(test)))
dev.off()
The same problem occurs with bolditalic, but not bold. I am using Debian
Stretch. Several friends tried the same on their machines, another
Debian machine has the same
