R 1.9.1 Fails to Start on WinXP SP2
I have two computers both of which are running Windows XP SP2. R 1.9.1
runs just fine on one but not the other. Both installations of R came
from the same installation package. When I click on the desktop icon an
hourglass shows up then disappears. Similarly, if I start RGUI the
process shows up in task-manager then abruptly disappears.
Interestingly, I can access R in Excel via the D(COM) Server

Domain logins: 2 small issues
...Apparently
samba creates the machine account but can't authenticate it. I have attempt
to join a second time for it to authenticate and succeed. This isn't that
big of a deal, and if I don't figure it out, I'm not in a major bind.
2) After a machine joins a domain, EVERYTHING in msconfig is gibberish.
Looking in the registry, every entry now has either a "C" or just "" for
it's entry. Also, the machines now pop up the system32 folder on login. This
is the one I *REALLY* need help with. My smb.conf is as follows:

...e/ct/english/99/11/206/
Once again, I am not sure if your still working on this or not, but if so,
maybe this will help.
p.s. When you get windows running, and it detects that there is a registry
problem.. What I did was replaced the file Scanreg.exe with Smartrdv.exe,
then disabled scanreg in MSconfig, So windows will not pop a warning upon
boot, and SmartDrv gives an errorlevel of 255 allowing your machine to boot
without popping error messages..

rsync on Win32 doc
...create a special batchfile for rsync, to
pass it the correct environment. In fact, I see no conflict
between cygnus' environment and a standard windows
environment. I didn't know where to send this but here, but
the simplest solution is to go to Start => Run (under
Windows), type 'msconfig' in the dialog box, and edit the
autoexec.bat shown there. Or, of course, you could use
Win32 builds of Vim or Emacs to edit the real file ;-)
Will someone please send this to wherever it needs to go to
update that doc? Or at least tell me where to send it.

Installing MSWord SETUP.INI is missing or invalid
...click on setup.exe gives me this: "An error occurred in the last installation of Microsoft Works Suite 2004 ... would you like to know how to perform a 'clean start'?" I say "No" and things close again. (I've said "Yes" before, that earned me a help page on msconfig.exe that didn't look very helpful to me.)
- The next d-click on setup.exe this time brings up the msg "The setup file D:\MSWord\SETUP\SETUP.INI is missing or invalid. Please make sure it exists and is accessible." (Well, it exists and I can access (=read) it. So what's the problem...

Login-problem samba 3.0.2.a Win XP Prof
Hi there,
WinXP Prof-Client on a samba 3.0.2a-Domain
The domain-login ist ok in general. But when a user logs in, he gets
an editor-window with a desktop.ini.
content:
[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\System32\shell32.dll ,-21787 )
i think, this ist desktop.ini in
//%L/profiles/%u/startmenu/autostart.
Do you have an idea how to ban this editor window from desktop after

RoR Install Woes
I have a fairly new (read, reasonably "clean") XP SP2 system that I''m
attempting to use as a Rails dev environment.
I''ve tried it two ways, 1) with InstantRails and 2) with the Rails
package and doing the install by hand. Both result in a weird set of
''hangs'', so I suspect something fundamental is at work here.
Basically I can start Ruby apps,

Vista roaming profiles...
Hi everybody,
after many weeks of searching/trying, I still can't manage to get vista to use/save roaming profiles with samba as PDC...
It has apparently worked a few times in the beginning since the profiles directories are populated.
Could it be related to a Vista update or SP1?
Here's what I did so far:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]

How can we improve WNE?
Hello everybody.
I'm a (quite) happy WINE user, but i would like to propose some things to
the WINE developers.
Something important imo, is that it must be easy to use for the user, and
some things could be better, here are some ideas to improve it by using
Winecfg:
1. Add an option to disable/enable/edit debug channels for all programs. As
you may know, a lot of programs runs faster

Why does this logon-script not work under Win9x ?
Hi,
i'm having a serious problem with the following logon-script.
It works under W2k, but not under W98, although W98 tells
it is running startup-script ..
First my smb.conf (only interesting parts) :
---snipp---
[global]
server string = Samba-PDC %v on %h
workgroup = WORKGROUP
encrypt passwords = yes
netbios name = 486dx66
domain master = Yes
