WD caviar/mpt issues
I know that this has been well-discussed already, but it''s been a few months - WD caviars with mpt/mpt_sas generating lots of retryable read errors, spitting out lots of beloved " Log info 31080000 received for target" messages, and just generally not working right. (SM 836EL1 and 836TQ chassis - though I have several variations on theme depending on date of purchase: 836EL2s, 846s and 847s...

mpt_sas multipath problem?
...es. I believe the server hardware is not relevant to the JBOD issue, although the internal drives do appear to the OS with multipath device names (despite the fact that these internal drives are cabled up in a single-path configuration). If anything, this does confirm that multipath is enabled in mpt_sas.conf via the mpxio-disable="no" directive (internal HBA''s are LSI SAS, 2x 9201-16i and 1x 9211-8i). The JBOD is a SuperMicro 847E26-RJBOD1, with the front backplane daisy-chained to the rear backplane (both expanders). Each of the two expander chains is connected to one port of...

Any rhyme or reason to disk dev names?
Hello, I am curious to know if there is an easy way to guess or identify the device names of disks. Previously the /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 system made sense to me... I had a SATA controller card with 8 ports, and they showed up with the numbers 1-8 in the "t" position of the device name. But I just built a new system with two LSI SAS HBAs in it, and my device names are along the lines of:

Disk failure chokes all the disks attached to the failing disk HBA
Dear All, It may be this not the correct mailing list, but I''m having a ZFS issue when a disk is failing. The system is a supermicro motherboard X8DTH-6F in a 4U chassis (SC847E1-R1400LPB) and an external SAS2 JBOD (SC847E16-RJBOD1). It makes a system with a total of 4 backplanes (2x SAS + 2x SAS2) each of them connected to a 4 different HBA (2x LSI 3081E-R (1068 chip) + 2x LSI

Tuning disk failure detection?
We recently had a disk fail on one of our whitebox (SuperMicro) ZFS arrays (Solaris 10 U9). The disk began throwing errors like this: May 5 04:33:44 dev-zfs4 scsi: [ID 243001 kern.warning] WARNING: /pci at 0,0/pci8086,3410 at 9/pci15d9,400 at 0 (mpt_sas0): May 5 04:33:44 dev-zfs4 mptsas_handle_event_sync: IOCStatus=0x8000, IOCLogInfo=0x31110610 And errors for the drive were incrementing in iostat -En output. Nothing was seen in fmdump. Unfortunately, it took about three hours for ZFS (or maybe it was MPT) to decide the drive was actually...

Hi, My solaris storage hangs. I login to the console and there is messages[1] display on the console. I can''t login into the console and seems the IO is totally blocked. The system is solaris 10u8 on Dell R710 with disk array Dell MD3000. 2 HBA cable connect the server and MD3000. The symptom is random. It is very appreciated if any one can help me out. Recommendation for home NAS external JBOD
...But I would either need a JBOD with 4-8 eSATA connectors (which I am yet to find) or use a JBOD with a "good" expander. I see several cheap sata to esata jbod chassis making use of "port multiplier". Is this referring to a expander backplane and will work with oi, LSI and mpt or mpt_sas? I am aware that this is not the most performant solution but this is a home nas storing tons of pictures and videos only. And I could use the internal disks for backup purposes. Any suggestion for components are greatly appreciated. And before you ask: Currently I have 3TB net. 6 TB net would...

Changing rpool device paths/drivers
Hello all, It was often asked and discussed on the list about "how to change rpool HDDs from AHCI to IDE mode" and back, with the modern routine involving reconfiguration of the BIOS, bootup from separate live media, simple import and export of the rpool, and bootup from the rpool. The documented way is to reinstall the OS upon HW changes. Both are inconvenient to say the least.

Has anyone used a Dell with a PERC H310?
I''m trying to configure a DELL R720 (not a pleasant experience) which has an H710p card fitted. The H710p definitely doesn''t support JBOD, but the H310 looks like it might (the data sheet mentions non-RAID). Has anyone used one with ZFS? Thanks, -- Ian.
