Winamp Issues
...g on a streaming radio server that will be streaming randomized archive shows 90% of the time and then live shows 10% of the time. The solution I came up with was to have /main the archive mountpoint and have a /live for the live shows. What we want to do is use the functionality of icecast's moveusers.xsl to move them to the live at the specified time and have /live's fallback to be /main to minimize dead air. We've overcome the the issue with having users come on to /main after the initial moveuser by just having a script to move everyone over on a set interval during the live shows....

Migrating user profiles from local to domain
...on problems and everything. Everything needs to be done "RIGHT", as someone has to walk around to every PC to do this, and we only want to have to do that once! :-) (and yes, they are turning on Remote Desktop at the same time ;-) ). In the Samba3-HOWTO.pdf, I found: > 26.2.5.3 moveuser.exe > The Windows 200x professional resource kit has moveuser.exe. moveuser.exe > changes the security of a profile from one user to another. This > allows the > account domain to change and/or the username to change. > This command is like the Samba profiles tool. I'm a bit co...

Move local profile to domain profile.
Ok, I got the W2K3 resource kit tool to move my local profile to my domain profile (moveuser.exe). Didn't really work that cleanly. Even though I used the /k (keep the local account), it didn't really. It seemed to change the permissions on MOST of the files. It didn't really move the files either. It's just pointed my profile (or parts of it) to the existing folder. Can...

Migration to Samba.
...domain (they report a 'rpc error'). Is there anything I can do? I think the ideal solution would be to emulate the sidHistory field from the AD, but a message from 2005 (i think) on this list said it was not possible with Samba3. Has that situation changed? I've also tried to use the moveuser.exe command, to no avail. It either claims that cannot find the account, or that the account already exists, and fails in both cases. The "profile wizard" from forensit fails when trying to determine if the accounts are using remote profiles. I'd appreciate any advise you can give m...

Permissions problem/misunderstanding ... "Domain Admins" vs. Administrators
...join PC's to the domain without any problem. It "just works". I am using local profiles, and serving login batch files from the server, and that "just works". So far, I'm a happy camper. Now, I am trying to understand permissions so that I can actually use the "moveuser.exe" command from the "Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools" (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9d467a69-57ff-4ae7-96ee-b18c4790cffd&displaylang=en). This is on Windows XP Pro SP2 with all recent patches. I am trying to "Copy" the existing loc...

Removing Samba+LDAP, replacing W2k3+AD
Four years ago, I migrated our network from Windows NT based servers to Linux, Samba+LDAP based setups. This setup has worked fine. Last year, we replaced our Exchange 5.5 server - the last "real" Windows server - with Scalix. This last decision has come back to bite me. Several new "thingys" that the boss wants, among other things, are forcing me to implement Exchange

How to migrate local MS Windows users onto samba AD DC ?
...er profiles. I do not see instructions how to start with a non-clean system where the workstations already have users and their respective local profiles (Desktop, settings, and local files) have been used for a while. Someone wrote on this mailing list a HOWTO and there is a mention of a "moveuser.exe". Is it still a valid HOWTO? All hints where to start digging will greatly be appreciated. Regards Lin

Howto merge two domains
...ible, user accounts and groups should be migrated as well as profiles etc. Share permissions on the PDC itself and the other workstations should be preserved as well. Is this possible? I read about the profiles tool that "it works only on NT", so it will not work with Win2K? I read about moveuser.exe but am not sure if this works with server-side profiles. How about preserving the share permissions when the SIDs change? Can the user accounts be migrated, or do they have to be re-created? Thank you, Andreas

Copying local profiles to domain profiles...
I just set up a Samba 3 PDC, and my users want to use their local profiles. Unfortunately their XP systems won't allow them to copy their existing profiles - that option grays out for their local accounts. Is there another way to accomplish this?

Re: Samba to ADS 2003
...ity will benefit from the discussion. I suggest you test a couple of workstations that you can afford to have messed up before you migrate the entire domain. That way, you'll get a feel for how it works in a test environment before going live. A further note: you will not be able to use the moveuser.exe tool (mentioned in the second post above) on a Windows Vista workstation. Instead, you will need to install Win32_UserProfile WMI on your Vista boxes. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930955 for more information. How to change SID in ntuser.dat?
Hello, i try to migrate user/groups from NT4 PDC to Samba3 with LDAP backend. There is already an NIS-Server with Samba runing, so there exists two userlists. I migrated the user/ groups from windows via net rpc vampire and added/changed the UID?s from the NIS-Server but didn?t change the SID. A teammate told me, there could be some access problems, if i don?t change the SID. So i tried to change

Moving a PDC
Hi list. We're running a Debian Etch Server with Samba 3.0.24 as primary domain controller for a XP dominated network. For various reasons, we're migrating our server to a new machine running on Centos 5.4 (and Samba 3.0.33). Additionally, I decided to get rid of our messy LDAP setup, as it is quite a pain to use and IMHO overkill for our small software shop (~15 machines / users),

HOW TO: Migrating users' locally-stored profiles from one domain or workgroup to a new domain
Migrating Users Profiles When Changing Domain Affiliation: A Primer I. Introduction NOTE: This applies to Windows NT-based systems with locally-stored user profiles. Windows 9x and Me do not manage user profiles in the same way. Quite often we find the need to change a workstation's affiliation, either from a workgroup (that is, the workstation is not in a domain environment) to a domain,
