Mallows' distance or Earth Mover's distance in R?
Hi I am looking for an implementation (or alternative to) Mallow's distance or the Earth Mover's distance to compare distributions or unnormalized distributions (signatures). Is there an implementation in R or can somebody recommend an alternative? Thanks Rainer -- Rainer M. Krug, PhD (Conservation Ecology, SUN), MSc (Conservation Biology, UCT), Dipl. Phys. Mover Stayer Models
Does anyone know how to program mover stayer models in R? They are a type of Markov chain model where there is a group of people who stays in the same place, a group who always moves, and a group who does both. Thanks. Leanne Sanders sanders.486@osu.edu [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Lala music mover throws many errors
I am trying to run the Lala music mover (it works in conjuction with Lala.com, a legal music sharing service). I've managed to tweak Wine enough to work it to a certain point in the wizard (this was a few months ago) but it throws back some errors about unimplimented functions. The console trace is HUGE so I didn't want to post...

Marks as read on mover to Archive
How would I setup dovecot so that when messages are moved to the Archive mailbox, they are marked as read? Would it be similar to the imap-sieve for spam tagging? imapsieve_mailbox1_name = Junk imapsieve_mailbox1_causes = COPY imapsieve_mailbox1_before = file:/usr/lib/dovecot/sieve/report-spam.sieve Or is there a simpler method? If it matters: mailbox Archive { auto = subscribe

densCols: what are the computed densities and how to create a legend
Hi, I'm using the densCols function for a scatterplot and cannot figure out 1) how to extract the computed densities, and 2) how to create a legend based that represents the upper and lower ranges of the densities. For example: movers.den <- densCols(move$x, move$y) table(movers.den) #08306B #083775 #083B7C #083D7E #3989C1 #3F8FC4 28 22 101 25 4 5 #4392C6 #65AAD3 #69ACD5 #6CAED6 #77B4D8 #98C6DF 14 6 8 4...

More complex Xen Networking, with VLANs and maybe with VDE 2... but how?!

Which packages in R use C++?
I want to see some working examples on how to call C++ programs from R. Could somebody let me know which R packages mainly use C++ rather than C or Fortran?

Need help in calling C code from R
Hi I would like to implement the "Earth Movers Distance" into R and found the code in C on the following page: http://www.cs.duke.edu/~tomasi/software/emd.htm Unfortunately, I don't know much (nearly nothing) about C and how to call it from R. As far as I have seen, the calling of the code from R should be rather straight forward, b...

Simple Coding problem ?
...series of diagnoses on the same patient over a sequence of time. The diagnoses are coded 1,2,3,4,5, but could come in a sequence like 1,3,2,5,3,5,...etc. Is there a simple way to count the number of times a 1 diagnosis is followed by a 2, or a 3, ... A 2 by a 1, or 3,....etc. It's almost like a mover-stayer problem. I think. I know this seems simple but any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Calvin -- ==================== Calvin L. "vorbiscomment"
Hello, I'd like to use abcde to rip my CD:s to Ogg Vorbis format - but abcde wants a "vorbiscomment" in my PATH. I assume it's a tool for inserting meta-data into Ogg Vorbis files, but where do I get it? The vorbis-tools package doesn't seem to contain it. Any (known) scaling issues?
I'm considering using rsync in our data center but I'm worried about whether it will scale to the numbers and sizes we deal with. We would be moving up to a terabyte in a typical sync, consisting of about a million files. Our data mover machines are RedHat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 and all the sources and destinations are NFS mounts. The data is stored on big NFS file servers. The destination will typically be empty and rsync will have to copy everything. However, the copy operation takes many hours and often gets interrupted by a...
