Mountpoints with auto mounter
Hi, I'm running dovecot on a OmniOS installation and I'm wondering what I can do about all those mount point warnings in my logfile. The problem occurs because of the running auto-mounter which manages my mail directories. Isn't it possible for dovecot just try to access the directories before logging an error message. Shall I remove the corresponding mount points from the list of tracked mount points with the doveadm mount-command? The documentation does say nothing about situa...

script help
Hi I am sure the answer here is really easy but i am stuck! # mount | grep data | awk '{print$1,$2,$3}' gives me the info i require locally, however i need to execute this over about 1000 hosts so i run things remotely using ssh something like # MOUNTER=`ssh $i 'mount | grep data | awk '{print$1,$2,$3}''` however this fails as at the end of the line there are 2 ticks eg ' together - Can anyone offer me some syntax help please? thanks

lomount: handy for file-backed VBDs
Hey all, This utility (from Qemu) might be useful to anyone who has multiple partitions on a file-backed VBD and wants occasionally to mount them in dom0. http://www.dad-answers.com/qemu/utilities/QEMU-HD-Mounter/lomount/ You can tell it what partition to mount out of the file and it sorts out the offsets, etc. by parsing the partition table. This allows you to get around the loop driver''s lack of support for partitioning. May be useful to someone! Mark -------------------------------------...

smb mount as root, access as non-root. Changed behaviour between samba 3.0.x and 3.4.x?
...elonging to another user (lp in this case) writes data into the share. When I use Ubuntu 8.04 for the samba server, which ships with Samba 3.0.28, this works. On Ubuntu 10.04 which contains Samba 3.4.7, I am unable to write to the share as the "lp" user (though root - the original share-mounter - is able to). I'm struggling to find what might have changed (a security improvement?, an alteration of a default option?), and whether I can work around this change? Can anyone offer any suggestions? regards, Seb James

mkfs.fat Device or resource busy
I'm trying to format a 16 GB SD card to FAT32. Either it won't find the device or it gives me the titular error message. mkfs.fat /dev/sdc I have tried "ejecting" the drive and reinserting the card. I have tried inserting another card, checking to insure that I could see its file, ejecting that card and inserting the target card. If I do not umount it, busy, if I don't, not

samba + nfs locking doesn't work

samba4 kerberized nfs4 with sssd ad client
Hi everyone, I have a samba DC, let's call it dc1.ad.example.com. I have two members of the domain - server1.ad.example.com and server2.ad.example.com.?? They are not running smbd and winbind. Instead, they are running SSSD with AD backend. I want to create an NFSv4 export on server1.ad.example.com and mount it on server2.ad.example.com (say, sec=krb5). I found some instructions online

...the card. > I have tried inserting another card, checking to insure > that I could see its file, ejecting that card and > inserting the target card. > If I do not umount it, busy, if I don't, not found. I'm guessing you are using a GUI and the GUI has some "magic" GUI mounter hack that automagically mounts USB disks when they show up. You probably have to turn that off or work around it. I guess umount from a shell will work. Eject won't work, since that not only umounts the file system, it also removes the device files (hense "device not found"). > &...

CentOS automount 99% CPU utilization -- NFSv3 vs NFSv4?
I have several CentOS 5.2 workstations in a Sun Solaris NIS domain and Solaris NFS servers (all Solaris 8). Frequently the auto mounter hangs with very high utilization -- I think it might be due to the Solaris 8 servers only using NFSv3 and the CentOS wanting to use NFSv4. How can I set the system to use NFSv3 globally, even for auto mount maps from my ancient Solaris NIS domain (which I wold like to upgrade, but that's anoth...

Re: Make WINE detect an image as a CD drive with an audio disc
Sometimes working in this field can drive you pretty nuts. Issues like this one are an example. A seemingly little detail (loopback mounter only mounting single file system) can have your wheels spinning for days. Time lost is money lost if you ask me. Some days I have so many of these issues that I wish I could just go back into the Marine Corps, take face full of oleoresin capsicum (http://oleoresin-capsicum.com/), and join my mili...

easily mount .iso files on CentOS
Yes I know you can use the command line to mount an iso, but does anyone know of a tool like mounty for deb systems that you can use a menu to find the iso and and mount it? Windows 8 has right-click and mount, os x has had double-click to open for years. Why do we need to revert to the command line for something like this on linux? Thanks, -wes?

ntfs-3g question
This is probably a dumb question, but I've looked around and I can't find anything on this. I'm using ntfs-3g now, from rpmforge, to access my M$ Window$ disks for offline backup and other such menial tasks, and I noticed that the ntfs file systems are not mounted automatically, but I have to mount them manually as ntfs-3g devices. I _thought_ when I installed the whole dkms-fuse and

Questions from a windows admin - Samba, shares & quotas
Hey folks, This may sound a little crazy, but I''m a long time windows admin planning on rolling out a Solaris server to act as our main filestore, and I could do with a bit of advice. The main reason for switching is so we can use snapshots. With Samba and Microsoft''s Shadow Copy Client we can backup everybody''s files and give users the power to restore files

Small problem with src/lib/mountpoint.c [now with patch attached!]
...playing with getting quotas from NFS-mounted filestores I've just discovered a slight problem with src/lib/mountpoint.c I had things working on a Solaris 10 test machine which had the mailstore mounted 'normally' using an entry in /etc/vfstab. However when I changed to use the automounter for the mailstore obtaining the quota broke. The problem lies with mountpoint_get(). On a 'normally' mounted filestore this obtains the device_path of the remote filestore in the form remoteservername.some.domain:/remote/path However when the mailstore was automounted I was i...

Configured AD backend but getting different uid and gid
Hi, Thank you for replying. User home directory creation is working without the need to edit /etc/pam.d/common-session The logon script I mentioned here is a in-house script to handle directory mounting for file server access, and create shortcut on the account desktop for different logins. On my Linux machines, currently all is done manually by local user account creation and by adding the

Going from 6 to 8 disks on ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard
My current home fileserver (running Open Solaris 111b and ZFS) has an ASUS M2N-SLI DELUXE motherboard. This has 6 SATA connections, which are currently all in use (mirrored pair of 80GB for system zfs pool, two mirrors of 400GB both in my data pool). I''ve got two more hot-swap drive bays. And I''m getting up towards 90% full on the data pool. So, it''s time to expand,
