[PATCH] Force mountd(8) to a specified port.
...wn port
through the sin/sa argument to bindresvport[_sa](). Why several Linux
distributions have this feature yet none of the BSDs do is beyond me...
Please let me know your thoughts. If there are no valid objections I plan
to commit it.

mountd and statd at specific ports - nfs firewall
Hi,
I am configuring firewall for NFS.
I see that statd and mountd start at random port. Is there any way to
force it to start at specific port each time. The '-p ' option would
work, but how do I configure it to start at specific port number each
time. I mean where do statd and mountd look for default configuration
options? Any clues?

UFS snapshot weirdness
Hi all,
I've been making a wrapper script for the backup tool 'duplicity',
allowing me to create config files for each resource, wherein I define
whether a snapshot should be made prior to backing up the resource or
not.
Now I find that my snapshots never change ....
The script creates a snapshot, creates md device, mounts it, runs
backup against the mounted snapshot,

NFS/mountd minor bug
This is only a small one and not that serious because remote lusers shouldnt
have access to your portmappers at all. However if they do then rpc.mountd
gives out more info than is ideal.

can i run NFS *exclusively* off of v4?
is it possible to set up NFS on centos 5.5 so that it uses *only*
version 4? i tried this not that long ago on fedora and was surprised
to see a complaint when i tried to start the server and was told that
i was missing required functionality of NFSv1, or something equally
weird. i'll check the /etc/init.d/nfs script, but i think what got me
into trouble was trying to use the entire set of

Samba on NT giving "the MOUNTD is not registered" error
Hi
I have set up SAMBA on a Mandrake Linux box to share a CD collection to an NT domain. The box shows up in the network browser and the share shows up when you browse the box. But if you try and browse the share you get the error "the MOUNTD server isn't registered" any ideas on how I can rectify this? If I use the smbclient command on the Mandrake box I can log onto the share as root, but not as any other user, I get the error message "tree connect failed: ERRSRV - ERRinventname (invalid network name in tree connect)&quo...

smbd & rpc.mountd eating up all the cpu

Don't know what happened, but Samba stopped serving up shares. Top shows
'smbd' using 66% of the cpu and 'rpc.mountd' using 33%. The samba log on

Security advice, please
...om/scott-rippee/checking-bindshell-infected-

tanup' but unlike the report, it wasn't famd on the port. It was

It looks as though certain services are marked as suspicious when they grab
port 1008. I tried to find how to restart the service, but without success,
but a reboot put rpc.mountd onto another port, and chkrootkit no longer
reports a problem. (I had rebooted last evening after an update incl...

Some client problems with TCP-only NFS in Gluster 3.1
I see that the built-in NFS support registers mountd in portmap only with
tcp and not udp. While this makes sense for a TCP-only NFS
implementation, it does cause problems for some clients:
Ubuntu 10.04 and 7.04 mount just fine.
Ubuntu 8.04 gives "requested NFS version or transport protocol is not
supported", unless you specify "...

Problem with "remote mountd" ?
...Samba newsgroup.
The Samba digest is full of great insights. It's a nice
resource to be able to search through.
I have an AIX 4.1.5 Samba server that has about 12 clients
mounting it. However, one group of Win95 PC's gets this error
when trying to mount \\server\homes:
"The remote mountd appears to be misconfigured."
I suspect that this is a bogus error, and not pointing
to the real cause.
They have another drive from that server already mounted,
so it appears that it is only the homes mount. They could
mount the homes mount last week, and the Samba config did not
change....

Why portmap is needed for NFSv4 in CentOS6
Hi all,
I have setup a CentOS6.3 x86_64 host to act as a nfs server.
According to RHEL6 docs, portmap is not needed when you use NFSv4, but
in my host I need to start rpcbind service to make NFSv4 works.
My /etc/sysconfig/nfs

# Define which protocol versions mountd
# will advertise. The values are "no" or "yes"
# with yes being the default
MOUNTD_NFS_V2="no"
MOUNTD_NFS_V3="no"

#RQUOTAD="/usr/sbin/rpc.rquotad"
# Port rquotad should listen on.

nfs umount soft hang
I have an NFS server and NFS client separated by a firewall. Both
servers are FreeBSD 7.1.
Server configuration:
nfs_server_enable="YES"
nfs_server_flags="-t -n 4"
rpcbind_enable="YES"
mountd_flags="-r -p 737"
mountd_enable="YES"
The firewall allows tcp and udp to port 111, but only tcp to ports 2049
and 737 (configured for mountd, see above).
On the client I use e.g. the following command for mounting:
mount -t nfs -o nfsv3,tcp,intr,rdirplus,-r=32768,-w=32768

[PATCH] Improve support for exporting btrfs subvolumes.
...same uuid so lookups will be confused.
blkid cannot differentiate the two, so we must use the fsid from
statfs64 to identify the filesystem.
We cannot tell if blkid or statfs is best without knowing internal
details of the filesystem in question, so we need to encode specific
knowledge of btrfs in mountd. This is unfortunate.
To ensure smooth handling of this and possible future changes in uuid
generation, we add infrastructure for multiple different uuids to be
recognised on old filehandles, but only the preferred on is used on
new filehandles.
